SUMMARY

Professionally built with a fastidious attention to detail, this fabulous Mustang has been officially recognised by the rather strict Eleanor World Registry and carries #214.

DESCRIPTION

When the factory introduced a 390ci 'big-block' V8 option on the Mustang for 1967, Carroll Shelby went one better, installing Ford's 428ci (7-litre) Cobra Jet V8 to create the GT 500, one of the great, iconic muscle cars of the 1960s. The Shelby Mustang continued to be based on the stock version, receiving the latter's styling changes and mechanical improvements while retaining its own distinctive special features until production ended in 1970.

One of the most famous of all Mustangs is that known as 'Eleanor', the Shelby GT 500 that starred in the 1974 B-movie Gone in Sixty Seconds, which was remade in 2000 with Nicholas Cage starring as the car thief main character. Indeed, such is the continuing level of interest in this type of car that production of the GT 500E resumed in the US with Carroll Shelby's blessing, using recycled original Mustang bodyshells.

If ever you had a Mustang Fastback itch that maybe only an Eleanor can scratch, then this example is without doubt one of the finest available. Perfect stance, well tested and finished to an exceptional standard commensurate with its 'Top Car' collection provenance. Absolutely right from the start, it’s an A-Code, San Jose, 1967 Mustang Fastback underpinnings that tell you that this build was going to be very special. It is officially recognised by the Eleanor World Registry and carries the build number #214, having passed their stringent build criteria.

The complete Belgian build process is fully documented, showing photographs of a very smart standard 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback that had quite fittingly lived its life in the amiable climate of Los Angeles (Long Beach) not far from tinsel town and the modern cult Eleanor portrayal in Fast and Furious. The photos show the complete process from stripping the shell to receiving its Grey Pepper final finish. Documentation shows that it received a new M-6007-Z363FT/RT crated engine from Ford Racing Performance Parts and a Tremec TKO 5-speed gearbox. All suspension and drivetrain components were fully rebuilt and it went on to win numerous classic car events in 2015.

Properly imported by our vendor, it has graced his significant private Collection over the last year. Correct in all of its detail right down to the correct wheel offsets, and recognised by the World Registry, Eleanors do not come any better than this, so if that itch still needs scratching, come along to the Sale and view this rather special Mustang.
