DESCRIPTION
The Triumph TR4A was built between 1965 and 1968 by the Triumph Motor Company in the United Kingdom. The TR4A was an evolution of the TR4, updated with a new chassis. It was hoped the new, but more complex independent rear suspension would address the buying public's desire for more comfortable riding sports cars. This version has an "IRS" badge on the rear. It has been estimated that 75 percent of TR4A were built with IRS. In response to dealer requests, about 25 percent of TR4As were produced with a solid rear axle option (also called a live axle), similar to the earlier TR4. The TR4A was the first vehicle to offer an option for axle type. The new suspension eventually proved itself with the buying public and in racing, with three TR4A IRS models posting a team win and finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in class at the Sebring 12-hour race of 1966. This stunning example was built in June 1967 and left the factory on the 27th August 1967 as a British right hand drive car.
Since that time the car has had 8 previous owners and the odometer now shows 58825 miles. The detailed history that comes with the car is testimony to its appearance detailing its comprehensive maintenance.
Records indicate that the vehicle was garaged and unused for some 5 years until 2009, at which point it was subject to a full body off restoration and engine rebuild. Completed in late 2012 it has only covered a mere 750 miles since. Notable points being; new pistons, & sleeves from 85mm to 87mm and head overhauled. New valves springs and guides, crankshaft ground with new bearings modified rear main fast road cam fitted with new followers. Distributor overhauled by "distributor doctor" and carburetors overhauled by Andrew Turner.
The car during its life was sprayed from the factory white to yellow and now returned back to the original white within the last 6 months, and in that time has also benefited from; a stainless steel 4 branch exhaust and complete exhaust system. The gearbox and overdrive overhauled by Laycock. A lightened flywheel fitted, prop shaft overhauled, new uprated driveshaft's and new hub. The final drive was overhauled with new bearings and the modified mountings. New chrome and stainless steel spoked wheels, splined hubs and spinners and new tyres.
With the interior being retrimmed in the original black leather and white piping, it has been finished to a high standard and ready for delightful classic motoring.
