DESCRIPTION
In 1967, Alfa Romeo added a new saloon model to its range, the 1750 Berlina. The Berlina was based on the existing Giulia range and used a similar bodyshell which featured four headlamps. The Berlina used a 1779cc twin-carb engine which came with a hydraulic clutch mechanism. The Berlina braking system used a twin circuit design for safety as well as a servo and disc brakes. Sales of the 1750 Berlina were very slow in the UK as the companies reputation began to suffer due to the corrosion problems. Despite low sales in the UK, Alfa managed to produce over 100,000 of the Berlina before production ended in 1972.
This Alfa Romeo 105 series 1750 Berlina 4-door Saloon was first registered on 9th December 1968. It was sold by Union Street Motors to a Mr Leggett, a flower gardener in Somerset now in his 90s and still driving. Mr Leggett owned TYD715G for 43 years until it was purchased by the current registered keeper in 2012 with a odometer reading of just 39,000 miles. Finished in midnight blue with nutmeg interior, this Berlina saloon is a very, very rare survivor in the UK and only four are known to the AROC. The car is described by the vendor as: "in superb condition throughout, both outside and in. It provides a superb and quiet modern drive... and is possibly the best one in the UK."
A very practical everyday classic car, this Alfa is powered by the legendary Alfa twin-cam engine with a five speed gearbox and disc brakes all round. It has even been wax oiled and serviced to ensure many more miles of driving pleasure. Supplied with original tools, rare front arm rest (still in original bag), immobiliser, original service history, old tax discs and a full year's MoT, this really is a car for the discerning Alfa enthusiast. Now reading a mere 43,000 miles.
