SUMMARY

Rare Le Mans Blue Camaro 396 SS Coupé, manual gearbox, RS upgrades, low-ownership.

DESCRIPTION

  • Perfect for any fan of American Muscle Cars, this is the Holy Grail of 1960s Camaros, an SS with RS upgrades, a manual gearbox and other performance modifications
  • In 2018, the President of the Camaro Club set Mike 'Wheeler Dealer' Brewer a friendly challenge - to find an original SS, the proverbial 'hens teeth' in the world of Camaros
  • Mike not only managed it within 12 hours, finding an incredible, one-owner, SS396 with a 4-speed manual gearbox down in Seattle, so special that he then shipped it back home to the UK where he set about an extensive restoration ground-up restoration
  • The 396ci L78 V8 was stripped, rebuilt and upgraded with Hi-Lift cams, a Magnaflow exhaust, Hedman headers and, when the build was finished, produced a little over 410bhp
  • It was correctly restored internally with new carpets and headlining, finished in Le Mans Blue and treated to a set of optional Rally Sport headlamp covers to enhance its authenticity
  • Mike originally planned to keep the car for himself but having invested over £40,000 it was subsequently sold to our vendor who has enjoyed it for the last few years
  • Now unexpectedly available, this rare car is sensibly guided considering it's probably the best example this side of the pond

Remarks

Refinished as close as possible to its original Le Mans Blue, the car had over 1,500 hours poured into the restoration and, if you had asked Mike about the costs to restore the Camaro at the time, he admitted £40,000 would not be far off.
