SUMMARY
DESCRIPTION
The Ford Mustang is a car that was first introduced by Ford in 1964 to an enthusiastic and inspired audience. Over 100,000 orders were taken in the first 3 months that the car went on sale and the car was both an instant and long term sales success.
It was forever immortalised by Steve McQueen during the famous car chase scene in the 1960's film 'Bullitt', and as a result good Bullitt replica cars are considered by many as the most saleable and collectable of all Mustangs.
This lovely rare genuine "S-Code' big block 390ci GT Specification example has recently arrived from the USA where the car had remained with the original owner from 1968 until late in 2011. The second owner covered less than 200 miles before our UK vendor acquired it in 2012.
Now showing just 23,500 unverified miles, the car is presented in superb original condition. Unfortunately the American weather had faded the original maroon paintwork, necessitating a respray, which has recently been completed in the iconic Moss Green colour (of the original Bullitt car) and that is how it is presented today.
On its arrival in to the UK new 'Torque Thrust' alloy wheels and Michelin tyres were fitted, replacing the previous after market wheels that had been fitted by the first owner. The first owner removed the original wheels as he did not like the style, however, they have been stored for the bulk of their life and are supplied with the car - still in excellent condition.
Mechanically in terms of originality our seller tells us that only the water pump and carburetor have been replaced, with the originals items included in the sale. The vendor also tells us that the sheet metal is all original Ford and bears date stamps that are all within a week of each other.
The 'GT Equipment Package' fitted is a highly sought after option giving the following equipment: Dual Fog Lamps - Dual exhaust system of a special low restriction type including chrome "quad" outlets - GT Stripe - Heavy Duty Suspension with higher rate front and rear springs, shocks and larger diameter front stabiliser bar - GT competition style steel wheels - GT flip open quick action fuel cap.
The interior is very clean and all the seats are in good order and appear to be original. The Sport Deck rear seat option is fitted allowing them to be folded flat for increased load space. Whilst a new wooden steering wheel has been fitted, the original will be supplied.
The original 'SelectShift Cruise-O-Matic Drive' Gearbox lets you drive fully automatic or shift manually through the gears.
It is presented with an exceptional history file which even includes the original build sheet (that was found under the dashboard), which denotes the build specification along with serial numbers for almost all the parts on the car! The vendor has had the car inspected against this build sheet and it is understood that all the panels and mechanical equipment are confirmed original.
Also included in the history file is all the original factory/dealer documentation even including the temporary cardboard plates from when the car was driven away from the dealership.
Surely an unrepeatable opportunity to acquire a genuine "S-Code' Mustang with impeccable history and originality combined with a sensible guide price.
