DESCRIPTION
When introduced at the London Motor Show in October 1966, the West Bromwich built Interceptor caused a furore and rendered its gawky CV8 predecessor obsolete at a stroke. Styled by Touring of Milan, interpreted by Vignale and powered by 6.3 litres of Chrysler V8, it was upstaged only by the four-wheel-drive FF alongside-that was subsequently voted best newcomer with a Car of the Year gong. Though its blue collar roots are all too obvious, what this iron-blocked behemoth lacks in subtlety it more than makes up for in cranked up volume.
We are informed by the vendor that VDA 675G was supplied by Cyril Williams Motors of Wolverhampton on the 22nd of November 1968. Incredibly it comes with its original purchase invoice in pounds, shillings and pence and even its own original Jensen factory inspection sheet and early Jensen correspondence outlining a fascinating 1960s history file.
Serious money was spent in 2010 on a rebuild of this Interceptors engine which we are informed was documented in pictures along with a full breakdown of each and every part used. Much expenditure has also taken place underneath the car with many new parts being fitted including new exhausts and manifolds, new brakes and brake pipes, new petrol tank, new rear springs and new shock absorbers.
The bodywork can only be described as superb thanks to a glass out professional respray also carried out in 2010, the gleaming Metallic Pewter paintwork has a superb finish, there are no scratches, dents, dings or other imperfections and the underside of the car is as good as the top to. Other items replaced include new glass rubbers, new door rubbers and felts, new head linings, new door cards and new carpet set. Much re chroming has taken place and as a result all the bright work including the original chrome rostyle wheels compliments the colour of this car beautifully.
Taxed and MOTd until October 2014, we are informed that the V8 Chrysler engine fires instantly with a spectacular American style roar, under way the car delivers a refined burble on the open road and responds instantly to prods of the loud pedal. The Jensen Interceptor is a true grand tourer that embodies its type, dynamically and aesthetically. It's a car for those who enjoy great machines and crave individuality but be warned, you may find yourself driving this Interceptor to a classic car show merely to stand and yawn at all the mass produced competition knowing that anything else would be oh so dull.
