DESCRIPTION
The MGC was a 2912cc, straight-6 version of the MGB sold from 1967 and produced through to August 1969. In the twin SU carburettor form used in the MGC, the engine produced 145bhp at 5250rpm. The body shell needed considerable revision from its predecessor around the engine bay and to the floor pan, but externally the only differences were a distinctive bonnet bulge to accommodate the relocated radiator and a teardrop for carburettor clearance. It had different brakes from the MGB, 15 inch wheels, a lower geared rack and pinion and special torsion bar suspension with telescopic dampers. Like the MGB, it was available as a coupé and roadster. An overdrive gearbox or three-speed automatic gearbox were available as options. The car was capable of 120 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 10.0 seconds.
Finished in Mineral Blue with contrasting leather interior this has to be one of the rarest MGC-GTs in existence today, the fact that it's a 'C' is rare enough, this particular car has an automatic gearbox. Purists may derise this car completely but for those who live a more sedate way of life but maybe contemplating life with a bigger classic car just because of its auto box, then this could be the car for you.
We are informed by the vendor of this beautiful car that this particular car has been the subject of a quality restoration within the last 12 months and as such RWD 628G is reported to drive beautifully with taut and crisp handling. The engine has a turbine like smoothness compared to that of its 1800 sibling, hit this engines sweet spot with your right foot and the car really will pull away with ease, being an automatic the whole driving experience is more relaxed. We are informed the steering is a tad heavy but there's the large original steering that aids deft progress. The combination of discs at the front and drums at the rear offer adequate retardation.
Predictably, after such a recent overhaul the bodywork is immaculate, various new panels were fitted to the car before being repainted. The underside shows no cause for concern whatsoever, the car has been painted to a very high standard and panel fit is reported to be excellent all round. Likewise all chrome work is in superb condition
The vendor informs us that there was actually very little to do internally to bring the car up to scratch, the whole interior has a lovely patina that merely adds to the occasion everytime you step inside this charismatic car. Sold with a fresh MOT and showing a current mileage of 35600 this is one of the best and most desirable MGC-GTs currently around. Coupled with perfect paint and lack of corrosion, this makes a fantastic buy.
