DESCRIPTION

1968 was when Jaguar launched the Series 1 XJ6 which was the finest luxury saloon car in the world, without argument. This was the best car that Jaguar had ever produced and the aficionados knew it. Journalists of the period went loopy over the car's looks, performance, ride dynamics and affordability, all of which are still impressive even by modern standards.

The car offered for sale here is potentially the last of its kind we will see. Registered in November 1969 it is therefore one of the more desirable Series 1 models, and boasts an incredibly low mileage of just 13,000 miles in the hands of one careful owner! A letter from the Jaguar Drivers Club in 1990 confirms the rarity if original condition and low mileage Series 1 cars. This letter states "our records show 150 [of these models in existence] in 1987, however I do not know as to what condition they are in'.

This truly is an exceptional car. Still retaining original license plate, and in the same Creamy White colour with Blue leather interior and manual gearbox exactly as it left the factory, there is no aspect of this car which has not been painstakingly improved or replaced with the exact original type throughout the whole vehicle. Some of you may have already recognised from the location of the photographs that this car comes from the same home as the beautiful Jaguar Mk IX and 420G that Silverstone Auctions have previously sold for record sums, and that the owner of these vehicles is sympathetic to every detail. The silver tray surrounding the gearstick, and housing the cigarette lighter and dual ashtrays had become tarnished and scratched over time, so the owner scoured the earth to find the exact replacement, eventually sourcing a box of these original trays from a Jaguar Supplier who'd forgotten he even had them in the rafters of his business! The owner was equally unsatisfied by the tired appearance of the filler caps, so replaced them both. Not content at just this though, he replaced the locking mechanism in each fuel cap with those from the original so the same key that unlocks the car, still unlocks the twin petrol caps. The list is almost endless. Rear license plate trim surrounds, again, long since discontinued were sourced in very good order at Beaulieu Autojumble, and expertly fitted to the car.

In short, this car is faultless throughout and following a painstaking engine rebuild a car we are confident to sell as performing as well as it looks. We doubt the likes of this will be seen again, and urge any parties who are interested to make the journey to come and see this car as you won't be disappointed. Whilst we're realistic enough to know that a Jaguar XJ6 is not perhaps the first choice on most of our "lottery win' lists, this is a "best of breed' example of a fine motorcar and deserving of a place in any serious collection.

Included amongst the history of this car is the original sale invoice from supplying dealer Stanley Goodwin & Son, Kidderminster showing the part exchange of the owners 1968 Jaguar 420 against the £2,592 sale price of his new XJ6. Also present is MoT test certificate, as you would expect, also the original log book in the name of the cars one owner, numerous handbooks, service voucher books, and mechanical drawings of the cars specification.
