DESCRIPTION
The MGC was a 2912cc, straight-6 version of the MGB sold from 1967 and produced through to August 1969. In the twin SU carburettor form used in the MGC, the engine produced 145bhp at 5250rpm. The body shell needed considerable revision from it's predecessor around the engine bay and to the floor pan, but externally the only differences were a distinctive bonnet bulge to accommodate the relocated radiator and a teardrop for carburettor clearance. It had different brakes from the MGB, 15 inch wheels, a lower geared rack and pinion and special torsion bar suspension with telescopic dampers. Like the MGB, it was available as a coupé and roadster. An overdrive gearbox or three-speed automatic gearbox were available as options. The car was capable of 120 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 10.0 seconds.
This car is a late home market right-hand drive example finished in Tartan Red with black leather interior and 72 spoke chrome wire wheels. The subject of a full body restoration in 2011, including detailed engine bay, this MGC roadster is presented in excellent condition. The shut lines and bodywork are in superb order and clearly significant time, effort and money have gone into getting the car up to its current standard. The interior leather seats are in good condition and the overdrive is functioning correctly. Wet weather can be avoided with a lovely Mohair hood that is in as new condition. In addition, a recently new stainless exhaust system allows for a fruity exhaust note to resonate when on the move. Supplied with a good history file and MOT test certificates back to the 1970's, TLJ 986H is one of the best MGC examples we have seen in quite some time. With only 1,403 MGC roadsters manufactured for the UK domestic market and far fewer left on the road today, this little British icon not only offers tremendous investment potential but a turn-key proposition for its next owner. A rare open top motoring opportunity for a most reasonable outlay.
