SUMMARY

A splendid example of the very rare 1969 B-Series 911E Sportomatic with, incredibly, its service history from new.

DESCRIPTION

1969 ushered in the first major changes to the iconic Porsche 911. Retaining the unique and successful rear engine layout as well as the same basic styling, the majority of the changes to the 911 were internal. Dimensionally, the rear track and wheelbase grew, while the overall length stayed the same as the earlier cars. Mechanical fuel-injection debuted this year as well as in top the of the line 911S and the new 911E. The 911E received its name from Einspritzung, the German term for injection. Slotted between the base-model 911T and the 911S, the E, which replaced the 911L 'Luxus', featured improvements including a leather-wrapped steering wheel, velour carpeting, vented brake discs and golden script on the rear deck.

Records indicate that 2,826 examples of the B-Series 911E found homes in 1969, however not very many of these were UK-bound in right-hand drive and even fewer with the revolutionary 4-speed Sportomatic transmission. This particular right-hand drive 911, finished in red with a black interior is a rare find indeed when you consider that it has full mileage and service history from new with the previous custodian retaining ownership for some 31 years. Patently fastidious, he has looked after and maintained the Porsche to the very highest of standards attested to by the comprehensive history file that accompanies the car with recent entries dated 2023, detailing a fresh engine and a comprehensive mechanical overhaul.

It was not so long ago that a 911 with the Sportomatic option was frowned upon by Porsche aficionados, but latterly interest has grown significantly with desirability of this rare and enjoyable model on the increase, possibly fuelled by the ease of use in todays modern traffic. Pleasingly, the Porsche is accompanied by the original document wallet that houses the hand and service books and the very rare Sportomatic Handbook, all supplied along with an A4 file containing various invoices and associated paperwork and a photographic record of the restoration.

It should also be noted that the car is currently fitted with period bucket seats trimmed in the same material and reminiscent of the ‘S’ spec seats, however the original seats remain in good order and will accompany the car.  Less than 60 examples of the 1969 911E are thought to remain and, with this particular example being in superb condition throughout, we welcome and encourage your early inspection to fully appreciate this rare and desirable 911.
