DESCRIPTION
In 1964 the Porsche 911 first entered production. The timeless design was a result of the work of, Ferdinand 'Butzi' Porsche and the company's joint founder and chief body engineer Erwin Komenda. The 911 soon became a car renowned for its drivability, featuring rack and pinion steering, torsion bar suspension and disc brakes front and rear. The 911 was powered by a dry-sump, air-cooled, 2-litre, flat-six engine mounted at the rear and was fitted to a five-speed manual transmission.
Our vendor's father was in Germany in 1971 and purchased this Porsche 911T Targa. He obtained the car directly from the second owner and went on to cherish it until 2011.
He imported it into England in 1974. The car was painted in Porsche Viper Green but as neither he nor his wife liked the colour he had a bare metal respray and changed to a VW metallic blue with underseal and armour glazing done, by Kemsing Coachworks.
The car was well loved and in consequence rarely driven for fear of any damage, although the vendor would religiously start and clean the Porsche regularly. In 1981 the family moved from Tonbridge to Pembury the car was a trailered over and we are told that apart from backing it out of the garage it was never out on the road again. Unfortunately in 1996 he became ill and slowly forgot about turning the engine over, although he remained proud of her until August 2011. Our vendor took ownership of the car circa 2008/2009 with the intention of putting her back on the road so that he could sit in her one last time.
At this time the car was taken to Paragon, who are Porsche specialists in East Sussex, for a full engine rebuild, which took roughly 2 and a half to 3 years. The car was stored over the winter by Paragon and returned in the spring of 2012. Bodywork was the next area to receive treatment, as it was looking a little sorry for itself. It was taken to Hillarys Coachworks and the decision was made to restore it back to its fantastic original colour of Viper Green so that everything would be just as it was when the car rolled off the production line. A full body bare metal respray was undertaken and once the paint was removed it turned out the car in good original shape underneath. The Targa roof was rebuilt, the over-riders re-chromed, and the interior refreshed with the inlay in the drivers and passengers seats replaced along with the internal leather panels next to the back seat.
This car has a phenomenal history being just a 3 owner car (2 family owners), presented with the car are all the invoices from Paragon and Hillarys Coach works. Along with the original handbook and every letter (some in German) from Porsche, and invoice regarding the Porsche. There are also 2 workshop manuals, and 2 dealership spare parts catalogues. Photos detailing every stage of the rebuild and respray and additional books/manuals for the Porsche.
This is a rare opportunity to buy a well-loved and well-documented iconic early Porsche 911 in the 50th Anniversary the 911.
