1969 Porsche 912

The year after production of the legendary 911 had commenced in 1964, Porsche introduced the similarly bodied 912 as an entry level model to the prestigious German marque. As such, it shared its monocoque steel chassis with that of the 911, together with independent front torsion bar and trailing arm rear suspension with all-round disc brakes. At the 912's heart, however, was a 1,582cc flat four cylinder engine - rather than the 911's 1,991cc six cylinder unit.

This Porsche 912 was manufactured in 1969, exported to the United States and sold new by Porsche Cars, Nevada. It is believed that the car remained in the dry states of Nevada and California during its first 28 years in the USA. In November 1997 the car was imported into the United Kingdom and a three year restoration was started. The vehicle was painted in light ivory from its original colour of Bahama Yellow. There are a large number of invoices in the history file for work carried out during the restoration and for other work over the last 17 years.

Specifically, there are invoices for the following: engine, gearbox, brakes, upholstery, interior trim, exterior trim, electrical wiring, exhaust, heat exchangers and general maintenance. There are also MoT test certificates from 1999 until today, showing the car has only covered 8,000 miles in the 14 years since the restoration was completed. There is also a State of California registration document, State of California vehicle test certificates and AFN Heritage certificate confirming the chassis number and build date etc.

Supplied in superb driving order, this little Porsche offers all of the style and sophistication of an early 911 for a fraction of the cost, in this the 50th anniversary of the model.
