DESCRIPTION
Introduced at the October 1967 Motor Show, the DBS was the successor to the famed Aston Martin DB6, although the two ran concurrently for three years. Styled in-house by William Towns, the aluminium-bodied four-seater had a sharper, more Italian look than the curvaceous DB6, but still exuded road presence and looks mighty impressive even today.
Longer, wider and more luxurious than the DB6, the DBS employed a platform-type chassis with independent suspension all round: wishbone and coil-spring at the front, De Dion with Watts linkage at the rear. Autocar judged it superior to the preceding DB6 in many areas, offering four full-sized seats in addition to transformed handling and road holding courtesy of the new suspension and standardised power steering.
Originally designed to accept an all-new V8 engine, this was not ready in time for the car's launch, so it was initially fitted with the legendary four litre twin-cam DB6 engine producing 282bhp at 5,500rpm via triple SU carburettors.
This DBS has been owned by the current vendor for 28 years. It was in regular use until 1987 when current vendor then decided to put it away in his barn, and that is where it has stayed ever since. The speedometer is showing 64,809 miles which is believed genuine, and the last MOT was issued June 1986 with a recorded mileage of 64,331 miles. The engine type number reads BA 82493. The vendor informs us that he used to occasionally start the engine up till about 10 years ago. But since that date no attempts have been made to turn the 6 cylinder engine over. Originally painted in blue with contrasting black leather interior, the car is currently finished in British Racing Green. With the current vendor repainting it in British racing green shortly after he purchased it. The vendor informs us that during his ownership he has had chassis work carried out, a stainless steel exhaust fitted and a replacement radiator fitted.
On the face of it, this iconic motor car appears to be in extremely original condition, and would make an excellent winter project. Nevertheless the whole car is offered in need of restoration. The mechanical condition of the car is unknown.
This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a fast appreciating Aston Martin DBS, which is Prime for restoration or a rebuild to your own specification. Following recent results, this car is surely worthy of consideration at this guide price.
