1970 Ford Lotus Cortina MkII

Following on from the enormous success of the Lotus Cortina MK1, Ford introduced the Lotus Cortina MkII in 1967 with the famous Lotus 1600 twin cam engine now giving 109bhp. Externally all the cars had a black front grill, 5.5J x 13 steel wheels and Lotus badges on both rear wings and by the rear numberplate. The gearbox ratios remained to 2000E spec, but the final drive was lengthened to 3.77 to 1 from 3.9 to 1 and comfort and handling improvements were made with a larger fuel tank and radial tyres.

This 1970 Lotus Cortina was delivered new in UK RHD specification to Malta. It spent the much of it's life in the mild winters and hot summers of Malta, until being repatriated to the UK 3 years ago by our vendor. It was purchased from a motor museum, where it was kept for 3 years on display.

Reading just 15,503 miles from new, we are unable to verify this mileage, however, given that Malta is just 122 square miles in size, we can understand how one would have little use for a car on the island. The vendor has recently had the engine taken apart to satisfy himself that it is all in good order. He tells us that the cylinder linings shows little signs of wear and has replaced any perished items and the gaskets on the engine as a precaution.

A great car that looks relatively untouched, and mileage aside, is in tremendous condition and a car that you would be proud to own.
