SUMMARY

Well presented, manual gearbox, 4.2-litre Series 2 Roadster that has benefited from a complete refresh a few years ago.

DESCRIPTION

Jaguar continued to develop the E-Type throughout its life and the first results of this programme of improvements were introduced in 1964 when the newly enlarged 4.2-litre XK engine was installed. Maximum power remained unchanged at 265bhp, however torque was usefully increased which, combined with the arrival of a fully synchronised Moss gearbox and more consistent fuel flow from the twin SU petrol pumps, contributed greatly to smooth progress.

The Series 2 of 1968 was a further quantum leap with an improved cooling system and better Girling brakes, addressing those less than endearing Series 1 characteristics of getting too hot and not being able to stop. The Series 2 also introduced several design changes, largely due to US Federal legislation and the most noted exterior features are the open headlights, a larger grille opening, re-positioned and larger front indicators and rear lights below the bumpers. The 4.2-litre XK straight-six now featured ribbed cam-covers, whilst inside there were better seats with headrests, new switchgear and the ignition switch was now on the steering column.

Presented here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive Series 2 4.2-Litre Roadster fitted with a manual gearbox, first-registered on 12th February 1970 and on offer from seven years of private ownership.

During 2018 and 2019, the car was subject to a bare-metal respray in a particularly rich shade of silver and new chrome bumpers were fitted at the same time. The interior was fully retrimmed in black leather and a new black mohair hood added to the effect as did the refurbished chrome wire wheels.

There is a good history file with the Jaguar, detailing the aforementioned work and containing further invoices for servicing and maintenance since 1985, details of an engine rebuild in 2006 and the usual older MOTs and the V5C.

This is a presentable, honest and usable example offered at a competitive guide. We welcome and encourage your inspection at Sywell Aerodrome in May to look at this classic Series 2 in more detail and fully appreciate the quality on offer.
