1970 Lotus Cortina MKII

Introduced in March 1967, the Ford Cortina Lotus MK2 shared much of the same high performance DNA as its illustrious MK1 predecessor. The newcomer sported a distinctive black front grille, 5.5J x 13 wheels and Lotus badging to each rear wing. Fitted with a more powerful version (109bhp) of the 1558cc Lotus 'Twin-Cam' engine which had hitherto been optional on the Elan and MK1, the MK2 also benefited from a revised 3.77:1 final drive ratio and new remote-control gearchange. Still carrying its battery in the boot to aid weight distribution, the two-door sports saloon boasted a wider track and larger fuel tank. Riding on stiffened suspension and utilising disc / drum brakes, it provided Ford with an effective competition platform until the arrival of the 'Twin-Cam' Escorts.

"AYE 338H" was subject to a major restoration and transformation in 2010/11 and is offered now as a very well prepared competition car.

During the build the shell was stripped, shot blasted, extensively repaired and strengthened. The doors were lightened, Poly carbon side and rear windows along with fiber glass bonnet and boot lid were fitted and then finally finished with a respray in the traditional Lotus colours of white and green.

The Lotus twin cam engine was bored and balanced and fitted with steel crank and rods, forged pistons, vernier timing sprockets and a high capacity oil pump and lightened flywheel. Naturally the head has been ported and fast road/rally cams installed with large valves. Mated to the engine in a light weight bell housing is a Ford 4 speed gearbox with Tran-X close cut gears and an AP Racing clutch. The power is delivered to the rear wheels via a standard Ford axle with a 4.4 limited slip differential. An Aluminium foam filled fuel tank and high capacity pump feed the twin 45 Weber carburettors.

The brakes have been upgraded using all new parts with discs at the front and drums on the rear. Suspension has been lowered and stiffened, competition Gaz shocks fitted and adjustable panhard rod.

The inside has been fully stripped and fitted with Safety Devises 6 point roll cage with side impact bars, racing seat, 4 point harnesses, standard dash and Moto-Lite wood rim steering wheel.

Supplied with current MoT and MSA logbook, "AYE 338H" is on the button and ready for a new owner to enjoy and explore a cost effective level of motorsport.
