1971 Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce

The Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV Bertone Coupe, in its final evolution, was as ground breaking as Giugiaro's earlier work for Bertone and it is still regarded as one of the prettiest Coupés ever produced. His design had a stunning visual balance that was enhanced by the clever use of shaping to the front and rear screens. Introduced in late 1972 at the stunning Gardone Riviera on the banks of Lake Garda, the final production run of the Bertone Coupé completely satisfied the Italian market, which was still sensitive to the over 2-litre tax system. Alfa Romeo would go on to produce over 36,000 units to meet the worldwide demand worldwide for this highly regarded Bertone design.

This particular GTV is finished in one of the very best colour combinations of Bordeaux Red with a superb beige interior. The bodywork presents beautifully with sharp lines and the paintwork is described by the vendor as being original but still retaining a bright shine. The current owner acquired this car in 1997 direct from the first owner, whose son he is still in contact with.

Shortly after its purchase, 'MUV944L' won 1st place in an Alfa Romeo Owner's Club concours event. Bills and receipts document every penny of expenditure over the last 15 years, with work carried out by marque specialists David Thomas of Hitchin and Lombarda in London. Sensible upgrades, such as Dellorto carburettors have been fitted, otherwise this Alfa is highly original to factory specification. MoT test certificates go back to 1996 and they help warrant the mileage of 29,700 miles. The vendor reports that this mileage is correct and that the first owner was an elderly gentleman who used the car most sparingly since taking delivery in 1972.

An original service booklet and instruction manual can be found in the history file, along with many bills and a letter of authenticity from the Alfa Romeo Owner's Club.
