SUMMARY

Classic looks and very competitive, this fabulous Alfa race car has current FIA HTP papers valid until 2026.

DESCRIPTION

The Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV was made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1967. This classic Alfa Romeo model was a popular sports coupe and formed part of the Alfa Romeo 105/115 Series, known for its elegant design and sporty performance. In 1971 Alfa Romeo introduced the 2000 GTV at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 1971. The 2000 GTV was essentially an updated/continuation of the 1750 GTV, retaining the 1750 GTV coachwork but with minor detail styling changed, and the biggest change, a torquey 1962cc DOHC-engine now producing 132bhp in standard guise.

Driver’s cars par excellence in the best Alfa Romeo tradition, Bertone's timelessly elegant Giulia-based coupés are among the most exciting sports models of the 1960s and 1970s. This wonderful little racer is an original UK-delivered, right-hand drive example that has been raced and competed all over the international circuit in recent years, and contrary to popular opinion on Alfas, it remains to be working faultlessly!

Here at Iconic Auctioneers, we are huge fans of the Alfa Romeo 1750 and 2000 GTV respectively, and it is with great excitement that we offer a fabulously competitive and very well prepared, right-hand drive, FIA certified variant of this fantastic little coupé. The car is a 1750 GTV that has been built and homologated to H1 1972-1975 specification, registered with the FIA as a 1971 2000 GTV with the therefore correct 1962cc engine. For the long-distance rally enjoyers, and ‘enthusiastic’ drivers, the car is fully road-legal and road registered with a current V5.

The history file contains a colossal amount of bills and invoices from Alfa specialists Alfaholics, Classic Alfa and DLR services. The engine is fully forged with most parts supplied by Alfaholics totalling nearly £10,000 in October 2014 alone. The engine was removed, stripped, machined and rebuilt by DLR services in 2014/15 with bills on file in excess of £5,000, as well rolling road setup. The bills and invoices for parts and labour are well in excess of £20,000, and there is also an abundance of race results, timing sheets and race entries included in the file. Importantly, also included is the MSA Homologation Form and MSA Historic Technical Papers, valid until 31/12/2026. It goes without saying that this Alfa is phenomenally fast and fastidiously built, with the finest parts supplied and fitted to this car. Viewing of the history file is highly recommended, it makes for very pleasant reading.

Cosmetically one would expect a few blemishes on race cars, but as can be seen from the photos, this lovely Alfa presents extremely well, running and driving as beautifully as it looks, making a delightful noise out of its side-exit exhaust. The bodywork in Farina Red shows no sign of the scourge of Alfas, the dreaded tin worm, and the interior is in a good condition. The car has been maintained without thought of expense and shows its age beautifully.

The car is competitive, having been raced internationally in France at Dijon in 2016, coming 2nd in class and 13th overall, at Spa in 2015, and across the UK at Silverstone all the way up to 2019, and winning its class at Donnington in 2016.

The historic touring car grid is always an aesthetically pleasing line-up, but this little Alfa is up there with the absolute prettiest, but not to be fooled by its good looks, it certainly packs a punch and gets very strong race results when push comes to shove.
