SUMMARY

One-owner Ducati 350 Scrambler with near-zero mileage, unused for half a century.

DESCRIPTION

Background:

The Ducati 350 Scrambler was produced from 1968 to 1974 as an on/off-road machine. Featuring a 340cc single-cylinder power unit, it is the first of the 'wide case' Ducati singles produced and aimed at the American Market. Sales were strong and total production was around 11,500 machines, though few 350s were imported to the UK during 1970-71 as the importer (Vic Camp) was in dispute with the factory over prices.

The bevel drive OHC single-cylinder engine featured an alloy head and barrel, with ball bearings for the main bearings and roller bearings for the big end. Hairspring valve springs closed the valves. Claimed power output was 24hp at 8,500rpm, for a quoted top speed of 130kmh (81mph.)

A revised and strengthened version of the outgoing ‘narrow case’ engines machines single cradle frame featured the engine as a stressed member. The rear swing-arm suspension had twin Marzocchi dampers, which were three-way adjustable, while the front suspension used 31.5mm telescopic forks. There were drum brakes front and rear – 180mm (7.1") and 160mm (6.3") respectively.

The Bike:

1971 UK-registered Ducati 350 Scramblers are rare enough – this example takes rarity to another level. It has to be absolutely a one-off.

To say that this Ducati has led a sheltered life is to seriously understate the situation. Purchased by the vendor’s Father-in-Law, this single-cylinder beauty was barely ridden for the first two or three years of ownership, covering only 12 kilometres before being stored under cover, and in covered storage it has remained, with the same family ever since.

A new battery has recently been fitted, to see whether everything still works and the vendor assures us that this hen’s tooth of a machine is fully functioning. It has had no restoration work whatsoever and is offered for sale either for the new owner to refresh it for the road, then use and enjoy as-is, or for a full restoration to totally showroom condition.

All the accompanying documentation is original and has been kept looking absolutely brand-new.

Summary:

With what barely even counts as delivery mileage, this rarer-than-rare Ducati Scrambler is looking for a new owner – and hopefully one who will exercise it in the way the manufacturer intended, on the burgeoning classic scrambling scene.
