DESCRIPTION
The increasingly rare and attractive Fiat 2400 Dino Coupe was assembled alongside the Ferrari 246 Dino at Maranello with both cars receiving the same engine. Ferrari had needed to produce 500 units to homologate their engines for F2 racing so an agreement was reached with Fiat to create three cars, a Ferrari Dino 206, a coupe and a spider. The initial capacity of the road going V6 engine was 1987cc but this was later increased to 2418cc which was used in the Fiat 2400 Dino and Ferrari 246 GT. The same engine was given to Lancia who installed it in the legendary Stratos. The 2400 Dino is regarded as more reliable than the 2000 version, has a more sophisticated suspension and is more powerful with 180bhp. Only 2,398 of the bigger engine cars were produced and are now very collectable and rising in valuable
This fabulous looking Dino Coupe was constructed in Maranello in July of 1971 and finished in stunning Metallic Silver with contrasting and very rare tan leather (most were cloth). We are informed by the vendor that the car was imported to the UK in 1988 and since then has been carefully maintained over the years to keep this car in superb fettle. Sympathetically restored and maintained by the current owner and with invoices for over £10,000 in the last 12 months( with invoices to prove) and the car drives superbly. There are the majority of MOT certificates going back to 1988 along with a copy of the original Italian registration document, and various other invoices dating back to 1989.
The bodywork is very straight and the panel shut lines are in good order, all bright work is in fine shape and the original factory alloys have recently been refurbished including the spare and are fitted with 4 recent period new tyres. The superb leather interior is in great order throughout and benefits from the addition of a recent new carpet set, the dash top is in good order, neither bleached nor cracked and all the fittings, fixtures, instruments and switches are present and correct.
Beneath the bonnet it is very clean and tidy, the vendor informs us of a recently refurbished alternator, new thermostat and importantly a refurbished Dinoplex ignition system. The carburettors have recently been set up by Airey Tuning Co of Hampshire, the engine was serviced in February of this year including the fitting of a performance air filter for better engine breathing by a marque specialist and the vendor reports everything to be in good order.
This Dino Coupe thrums along beautifully and drives with a proper mechanical feel. Investigate further and the mighty motor quickens its pulse and fires you authoritatively down the road. Mileage is indicated to be just over 103000 Kilometres which equals just over 64000 miles and is currently MOTd until October 2014. There is only one way to drive this fabulous car, with the windows down, Persol shades on listening to that fabulous engine note, you'll look effortlessly cool to.
