SUMMARY
Combining the glamour of the E-Type and the muscular cruising ability of Jaguar’s silky smooth V12, this Fixed Head Coupé would make the perfect companion for any grand tour.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
The Jaguar E-Type Series 3, introduced in 1971 at the New York Motor Show, marked a new chapter for the iconic British sports car. It featured Jaguar's first production V12 engine, a 5.3-litre power unit delivering 272bhp. This engine provided the Series 3 with significantly more power and torque, offering a refined and exhilarating driving experience. The introduction of this larger engine brought not only better performance but also enhanced comfort, making it an even more suitable grand tourer.
The Fixed Head Coupé (FHC) variant of the Series 3 retained the sleek lines and elegance of the earlier models, though with a slightly longer and wider body to accommodate the larger engine. It featured distinct styling updates including a larger cross-slatted grille, flared wheel arches and wider tires, giving it a more muscular, aggressive look. Despite these changes, the FHC still maintained the timeless beauty that defined the E-Type lineage.
Inside, the Series 3 offered improved comfort and space, with power steering and optional air conditioning for a more luxurious driving experience. Though it may be overshadowed by earlier E-Type models, the Series 3, particularly the FHC, represents a refined blend of performance, comfort and style, securing its place as a unique and desirable model in Jaguar's history.
The car:
This genuine early UK right-hand drive manual Jaguar E-Type Coupé was originally registered on 6th October 1971. Restored in the early 2000s, with photographs documenting the process, this exceptional E-Type has only covered some 3,000 miles since. It presents beautifully with chrome wire wheels in excellent condition and recently re-chromed bumpers setting off its striking coachwork superbly. The car has also benefitted from a restored leather interior, a new steering rack and the fitting of new exhaust parts.
The documentation accompanying the car includes records of all former keepers, making it traceable right back to its first owner. In addition, the car comes with comprehensive history and MOT records dating back to 1986 along with a V5C registration document, and a photographic record of the restoration.
Since its purchase by the current vendor, the car has been part of a private Collection where it has been housed in an enviable heated and carpeted motor house, alongside other collector-quality vehicles.
Overall, this Jaguar E-Type fixed Head Coupé represents a fabulous opportunity to own an older restored and well documented example of one of the most iconic British sports cars. With its conservative mileage, nice presentable and useable condition with traceable history, it stands as a fine addition for any discerning collector or driving enthusiast. Formally housed in a glass-fronted motor house and treated like a piece of art, this E-Type is ready to be cherished by its next owner.
As the car has been long-term stored with no recent road mileage, the lucky new owner may wish to carry out some road recommissioning activities. At present, the car does run and drive, however its does currently smoke when driven, we have not ascertained to direct root cause, most likely a by-product of its storage and lack of recent use.
30/10/2024 Sale Room Notice;
*** The ignition key barrel has developed an idiosyncrasy that results in the key needing to be supported in position. A temporary solution is currently in place allowing the car to be driven. The car would benefit from the barrel being replaced. We moved the vehicle at our storage facility today and it appears to have developed a leak in the power steering system. The system is now inoperable, and we would not recommend driving the vehicle until this has been addressed***
