DESCRIPTION

A rare car even by Lamborghini standards, the Jarama (pronounced Yah-rah-ma) was unveiled at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show. It used a shortened Espada chassis with a stunning Marcello Gandini styled steel body built by Marazzi. Even by today's standards this two door GT is stunningly fast, the 350 bhp V12 quad-cam, which was taken from the Espada and sported six Weber carburettors, could crack 155mph. The 1973 385 bhp S version was quicker still and identifiable by its subtle bonnet scoops and air vents behind the front wheel arches. Not only was it fun to drive it was a proficient handler and it sold in steady numbers until 1976 with a total of just 327 cars ever being built.

We are informed by the vendor that this particular car was supplied new by Lamborghini Espanol General Mola on the 22nd April 1971 to a Mr Osvaldo Nicholas Ferrara, an Argentine musician, composer and conductor. An interesting additional feature of this fabulous car is a period Dictaphone which, rumour has it, Mr Ferrara ordered in order for him to compose music whilst driving, although there is no paperwork to confirm this. The car remained in his ownership until his death in 1977.

The vehicle was then sold to Aero Industries of Madrid, who we are informed then dispatched the car back to the Lamborghini factory for an engine overhaul and upgrade to 'S' specification along with cooling and brake modifications and a full bare metal re-spray.

There's a gentle clattering from the electric fuel pump and a starter whirr before the quad-cam, multi-Webered V12 thoroughbred erupts into life, settling quickly to a meaty burble at 800 rpm tick over. Above 4000 rpm there's an unrelenting surge of power delivered with a spine tingling bellow that defies belief. Currently owned by a Lamborghini enthusiast for the last 12 years this stunning GT car has been very highly maintained and has been mainly used for commutes to the South of France. We are informed the car drives without fault and has proved to be exceptionally reliable over the years.

Sold with an MOT until March 2014 and various original Lamborghini paperwork and servicing documentation this Lamborghini is so totally involving for the enthusiastic pedaller that you'll never tire of blipping the throttle on the downshifts from fifth to fourth just to hear the throaty overrun bark. Each sortie feels like an adventure- a 50s Le Mans racer meets Supermarine Spitfire.
