SUMMARY
From three decades of UK-ownership, recent works by Autofarm and a pleasing blend of repainted exterior and original interior.
DESCRIPTION
Whilst remaining restrained in their design, Porsche was constantly improving the 911 and the 1970 C and D-series benefited from an upgrade in engine size to 2,195cc, the ‘T’ was fitted with ventilated discs from the ‘S’, and a 5-speed box became standard. Alterations to suspension pick-up points improved the handling and gave a little more steering feel. The aluminium hoop not only supported the removable Targa roof, but provided the occupants with industry leading protection in the event of an accident.
Built in 1971 as a late D-series, left-hand drive car, it's understood from the history file that this early Targa resided in the United States for nearly 20 years prior to arriving here and subsequently being UK-registered on 5th September 1990 with 33-years of sole ownership beginning a year later. Presenting well thanks to a fresh coat of Tangerine Orange, the black leatherette interior appears to be original, showing lovely patina, as are the well worn carpets. Later additions include a three-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel and a Porsche-embossed wooden gear knob.
The history file evidences maintenance and remedial works by renowned Porsche specialists Autofarm of Bicester from 2017 up until the most recent and extensive works in 2023. Trusted, as ever, they were tasked to identify why the car wouldn’t start after a year in storage. This included removing the engine and gearbox, replacing various hoses and clips, fitting a new selector shaft seal, installing a new gearbox housing cover, tuning the engine, and painting and fitting the front spotlight aperture covers. The total cost of the work amounted to £6,640.00 according to the December 2023 invoice.
With a five-digit odometer, we understand that the mileage is some 116,583 miles and the car is presented to auction with numerous maintenance invoices and a handbook.
