DESCRIPTION
Looks to die for! A usable example with previous long term ownership.
Previous ownership for 22 Years
Delivered new to France later imported to UK in 1989
Never fully restored always well maintained by previous mechanic owner and current enthusaist owner
Tastfully upgraded by previous owner by replacing the notoriously problematic injection system with a more traditional and reliable carburettor arrangement
Though there was no love lost between them, Bert Hopwood had worked with Edward Turner as designer, draftsman and engineer for much of his career. It was Hopwood wholi>'Harvey-Bailey' handling kit which we understand really transforms the car's road manners and predictability/li>
li>Unwarrented but possibly genuine, 44,678kms from new, the car is accompanied by almost all its MoTs since 1993./li>
li>Ext often re-engineered Turner's designs to make them practical and reliable. By the early sixties, Hopwood realized a new engine would soon be needed to replace the aging parallel twins. Hopwood and his assistant Doug Hele drafted a three-cylinder engiensive history file, which includes a vast quantity of invoices, it is clear that this car has been well loved./li>
li>A very honest car that would benefit from further TLC to improve its aesthetics/li>
li>Looks to die for and an incredible ne: effectively a unit-construction Triumph 500 twin with an extra cylinder, giving it 750cc. But Turner was opposed to the triple and the project went no further until Turner retired in 1964./p>
p>Hopwood and Hele fitted their engine into the Bonndry sump, Quad-Cam, V8.../li>
/ul>eville frame and cycle parts. The prototype worked well and looked great but senior management was unimpressed - until word leaked in 1967 that Honda was working on a 750 multi. The project was revived, with the engine redesigned and fitted in a new frame using cycle parts from the existing 650 twins./p>
p>In all, only around 7,000 Rocket 3s were built, including 1,000 1971 models and 200 1972s/p>
p>This BSA US Export Rocket 3 was manufactured in 1972 and is one of the 200 produced in that year. This matching numbers machine has a UK registration, GYX618J, and was imported into Guernsey in 1973. It is presented in beautiful condition having been rebuilt approximately eight years ago to original specification by Carl Rosner. An undoubtedly collectable model that is becoming increasingly difficult to find in both restored and original condition./p>
