SUMMARY
A gorgeous Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, benefitting from lots of recent expenditure.
DESCRIPTION
Please note that as the car is based in Jersey, the seller has kindly offered to drive the car to Southampton airport to save the potential buyer a trip to Jersey (Upon receipt of funds).
Background:
The Pininfarina-designed Spider is one of the all-time great Alfa Romeos, debuting in 1966 and in constant demand through a near-30-year production life, spanning four distinctive models, from the ‘boat-tail’ made famous in The Graduate to fuel-injected Series 4 of the early 1990s. Long before production ended, the 105/115-series cars were regarded as classics and demand for these pretty, characterful convertibles has never waned.
The Series 2 Spiders introduced in 1970 were distinctively different from their forebears, with the square-cut Kamm tail offering improved aerodynamic balance at speed, plus the handy bonus of increased boot space, among many detail changes.
For 1971, a bigger 2-litre twin-cam power-unit was introduced to the range, mated to the sweet 5-speed gearbox and balanced, nimble chassis to further improve what was recognised as a superb driving experience.
The car:
This lovely right-hand drive, UK market 2000 Spider Veloce was delivered to its first owner in 1972, finished in Bianco with a contrasting black soft top and a black vinyl-trimmed interior, complemented by the classic wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel
The car has enjoyed recent investment with the current and previous owner. The engine received a full top-end rebuild in a prior ownership, which included new valves, guides, seals, head gaskets, plugs and belts. The car has also been reported to have been resprayed and retrimmed during a prior ownership and has been fitted with various new parts including the grille, bumpers, badges, fuel tank and sender, radiator surrounds, wheel nuts, exhaust, rubber boot mats, footwell mats and battery. Additionally, the radiator and the wheels were refurbished.
Further recent work includes the latest service, which was carried out during May 2023 at 85,435 miles by the previous owner, a Ferrari specialist engineer. The work comprised an engine oil and filter change, along with the replacement of the fuel pump, spark plugs, brake fluid, coolant, steering joints and screen-wash bag, as well as a retune of the carburettors and a rewiring of the horn and washers.
During 2023 the ignition leads, distributor cap and rotor arm were also replaced. The fuel pump and brakes were replaced and the carburettor was rebuilt in 2019. Around the same time, the shock absorbers and springs, clutch and the brake discs and pads were all replaced; and all four brake calipers were reconditioned.
All four tyres, the header tank, the door handles and the outer badges have been replaced during previous ownership, and the starter motor and alternator have also been rebuilt. The odometer indicates 85,594 miles and it sits on a set of 14-inch wheels with Alfa Romeo hub caps and Falken tyres.
Previously in the ownership of a Ferrari specialist engineer, this delightful Spider was acquired by the current owner in June 2024 specifically to use as a characterful groom’s car at his son’s wedding. Now the event is over, it’s time for a new owner to use and enjoy it.
Accompanying the car is an A4 history file with extensive maintenance invoices and the most recent MOT test, which took place on 25 January 2024 at 85,437 miles, resulting in a pass with advisories for slight play in the offside front lower suspension arm ball-joint, which has since been replaced.
Summary:
Who can resist an Alfa Spider? Especially one which has benefitted from extensive and caring attention. This absolute beauty will put a smile on everyone’s face whenever it’s driven.
