SUMMARY
A rare and desirable Mk1 Capri 3000GT superbly modified for fast road, sprint or hill climb events.
DESCRIPTION
Ford's European pony car - inspired by the legendary Mustang and immortalised by the TV detective series 'The Professionals', the Capri has a special place in many a car enthusiast's heart. MKI production ran from 1969 to 1974 and it was towards the end of the first year that the sporty 3000GT joined the range. Powered by the 2,994cc V6 'Essex' powerplant, it harboured 138bhp under its lengthy bonnet, sufficient for a 0-60mph time of 9.5 seconds and a 110mph top speed which was Jaguar Mk 2 territory at the time.
There are believed to be just 31 Ford Capri 3000GTs currently road-registered in the UK, with a few more on SORN with this particular example, standing out from the crowd and almost certainly unique. Modified and uprated some years ago to an enviable standard and now powered by a turbocharged and injected 3.1-litre Essex V6 driving through a 5-speed Borg Warner T5 gearbox. The additional specification is impressive (a full list available upon request) and includes an aluminium bell housing, Pace custom alloy radiator, Weber Alpha engine management, uprated suspension and enhanced braking, a full roll cage and the instantly recognisable 'Cologne' front and rear arches all rolling on 15" Compomotive CX split-rim alloy wheels shod with Toyo R888 tyres.
The Capri presents superbly finished in Sebring Red with RS3100 graphics and the engine bay is almost 'show standard'. The black interior is equally impressive with 'fishnet' Recaro bucket seats, Sabelt full harnesses and a classic RS 4-spoke wheel.
Fully UK-registered, this Capri can be enjoyed as intended out on the open road or, as of late, pressed into action as a sprint or hill climb car with the option to drive to the event should you wish. Looking every inch the legendary RS3100 but considerably quicker, we invite and encourage your viewing of this versatile Capri GT.
