1972 Land Rover Range Rover Suffix A

Good Classic Range Rovers are getting more and more difficult to find as interest in them soars. We remember fondly an Octane article from February 2011 pitting four Range Rovers owned by the who's who of the London motoring set with (in our humble opinion) the '72 Suffix A in Davos White stealing the show. The owner of that vehicle saying of these machines that "the 1972 "Suffix A' example will feel a bit "classic' on the road, as it has the heavy four-speed gearbox and lacks power steering. Certainly it is not the sort of vehicle you want to hustle through central London but, once on the move, the steering lightens up appreciably, and whilst the gearshift is slow it is co-operative, and the car's demeanour is friendly. Visibility is first class and the ride is supple. The all-round disc brakes work just fine and soon you begin to lean the long-travel suspension into corners with more commitment while exploring the V8's 135bhp'.

Perhaps this is why dealer showrooms and auctions in recent years have seen similar cars in complete restored condition make well above £20,000, and seemingly north of £50,000 in some cases if window prices are to be believed. The car offered here has been the recipient of some recent remedial works to the body and to the unusual Tuscan Blue paintwork. Save for the paint, the car is in generally original order with some tarnishing to the Sand coloured vinyl seats. As we made comment to in our opening line, these cars are increasingly difficult to source so if you want to own one, and we strongly suggest you do, restoring one may be your only option.

**Since the close of the catalogue for the NEC sale, more work has been completed to this vehicle and the result is better than anticipated. The localised paintwork that was being applied has been completed to a good standard, and the interior has been improved by installing a fresher set of front and rear seats. DO NOT underestimate the importance and relevance of this being a Suffix A Range Rover and don't be afraid to get into the market for this now, before it passes you by...**

Offered Without Reserve, but with owner's manual, original registration number, old-style V5, a replacement handbook, four uncut period keys and a hand-written mileage record kept by a fastidious former keeper, this is an excellent base from which to create one of those £20,000 showroom stars we eluded to...
