SUMMARY

Beautifully presented and remarkably original Daytona Yellow 1973 Capri 1300 L with just 39,433 miles from new. Almost certainly the finest example of the now rare 1300L currently available.

DESCRIPTION

Ford had started production of the Capri at Halewood in Liverpool, England in November 1968 in order to ensure that every Ford dealer had at least one Capri on their forecourt on 5th February 1969 and heavily marketed as 'the car you always promised yourself'. Over the next 18 years, nearly 2,000,000 people in Europe and America did fulfil that promise. 11 years after the Capri was launched, it was still in the top ten selling cars in Britain, something that would be impossible today.

Over the decades, there can't be many people who have not owned or driven one of the many models of Capri at some point so, whatever your view is of the Capri, it remains a part of our motoring history that carved a place for Ford in a sector of the market it had never been in before and set the trend for others to follow.

Ford were absolute masters at upselling their range by adding clever touches which really enhanced the cars and were badged accordingly, allowing your neighbour to closely observe your career path. Specifications and consequently desirability varied directly, with those little chrome letters moving through 'L' to 'XL', 'GXL', 'E', 'GT' and some time later, 'Ghia'. Despite having been built in serious quantities, the ravages of time and multiple owners have significantly reduced the number of survivors and although many of the more powerful and rare examples have been rescued and restored, it's very, very rare to find a basic 1300 or 1600 model like the 1300 L on offer here in such fabulous condition.

Shared with the Mk1 Escort, the 1,300cc engine was the smallest ever offered for the Capri and was only available from launch in 1969 to 1973. Technically, it was possible to buy a Capri 1300 with out any of the upgrade packs, but no one can recall ever seeing one. The car on offer here was fitted with the 'L-Pack' which cost £15 0s 4d and consisted of identifying badges, chrome exhaust trim, bumper over-riders, locking filler cap, foot-operated wash wipe switch, bright metal wheel trims, bright metal side mouldings and bright metal dummy air scoops.

So, in period, not many lads would stand in the pub and brag about owning a budget 1300 L Capri but, 52 years later, owning this stunning, Daytona Yellow 1973 Ford Capri 1300 L in original spec with just 39,433 miles from new is something you would certainly want to shout about.

It was supplied new by Perrys of 54/56 Walton Street, Aylesbury and there is still a Perrys dealer sticker in the back window and another on the driver's side window. The interior appears to be essentially original with its original Ford LW/MW radio. It's been enjoyed by four former registered keepers and the history file contains the original book pack, service book, underseal guarantee - dated 26th October 1973, MOT certificates back to 1976 at 6,541 miles and a handwritten MOT mileage log from 1976 till 2003.

Very few Capri 1300s remain and this must be one of, if not the best currently available. We encourage your inspection at our Supercar Fest Sale.
