SUMMARY
An Italian market Series II Lanca Fulvia Coupé, fully restored before being imported to the UK, dripping with 1970s style and ready to charm a new owner.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
The Lancia Fulvia (Tipo 818) was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963 and was manufactured in three variants, Berlina 4-door saloon, 2-door Coupé, and Sport between 1963 and 1976. Named after Via Fulvia, the Roman road leading from Tortona to Turin, it was advanced and cleverly-engineered, fully living up to Lancia’s reputation, front-wheel drive replacing driven rear wheels on its predecessor, the Appia.
The Fulvia's narrow-angle DOHC V4 power unit was mounted well forward at a 45° angle to allow for better packaging and more internal space for the car’s occupants. A new design by Zaccone Mina, its unusually narrow 12° V allowed a single cylinder head to cover all the cylinders, with one cam each for intake and exhaust valves. A small, light, free-revving gem of an engine, it helped the Fulvia Coupé excel in motorsport, particularly rallying.
The Series II Fulvias, featuring a face-lift and numerous improvements, were introduced in 1970. The Coupé 1.3 S (Tipo 818.630/631) boasted a 1,298cc V4 (818.303) producing 90 CV (89 hp) at 6,000rpm, driving through a new 5-speed gearbox. Larger Girling callipers and pads replaced the Dunlop system fitted to first series cars to match the improved engine performance.
The car:
This sweet little Series II Coupé was supplied new to Signor Giacomo Botta of Milan in June 1973, as evidenced by the original Italian documentation. Naturally, it’s a left-hand drive model.
The car was fully restored in Italy, being finished around 2018, shortly after which it was imported into the UK, since which time it’s been used sparingly. It’s in splendid condition and proudly wears it’s 1970s heritage with its rich coachwork and tan leather interior.
In addition to the original registration paperwork, there are various stamps within the 'libretto', the Italian equivalent of the UK V5C document. These stamps dating between 1976 through to 2018 are the equivalent of MOTs.
One of the prettiest of roadcars from Lancia’s golden age, the Fulvia Coupé is the pick of the bunch and this superb left-hand drive example with its light, airy cabin, zesty V4 and sweet 5-speed ‘box will make a fine driving companion. Semplicemente fantastico!
Summary:
Live the dolce vita with this pretty Fulvia Coupé, on the button and ready to give its new owner the full 1970s Italian driving experience. Fantastico…
