For 1972, all Porsche 911 variants received the 2.4-litre engine, with the 911 S representing the pinnacle of Porsche's sports car programme of the time, bettered only in performance terms by the 2.7RS. Today, a 1973 model represents the last year of lightweight cars before the advent of impact bumpers, and for many purists, the '2.4' is the last 'old-school' 911 and therefore all the more collectable.

The 1973 'S' was fitted with the final development of the free-revving 2.4-litre, type 911/53 engine producing 190bhp, resulting in 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 144 mph. It also benefited from a revision to the suspension pick-up points and of Koni dampers, plus the transmission was enhanced with the addition of the new 908 race car-derived 915 gearbox, which was stronger and offered an improved gear change. The 'aero' package was improved by fitting a front valance spoiler which reduced front-end lift. Coupled with Porsche's total domination of the World Sportscar Championship and Steve McQueen's endorsement in the film, 'Le Mans', they could do no wrong with the now iconic 1973 911 S and its derivatives.

This beautiful 2.4S was UK supplied in right-hand drive by AFN in June 1973. It has a Certificate of Origin from Porsche in the file and amazingly copies of all the V5Cs (from owner to owner) and every MoT, so the indicated mileage of 210,000 is warranted.

The car's original colour was Cream but was bare-shell repainted black in the late 1970s and has been Black ever since Our vendor bought the car in November 2017 and the seven owners prior to him are all carefully detailed in the owner's file along with other facts about the car's history.

The gearbox was rebuilt at 53000mls in Sept 1977 by AFN and there are details of a full engine rebuild (including pistons and liners, crank etc ) in Jan 1990 at 165,000mls by Edwards Garages. The body was restored in 2003 at 190,000mls at Total Repaint in London.

Naturally, with a car from 1973 that has covered over 200,000 miles, it has had numerous parts replaced over the years including brakes, suspension parts, heat exchangers, electrical parts, timing chains, clutches, tyres, etc etc etc and a substantial number of invoices for this work remain in the history file. These invoices read like a 'Who's Who' of respected Porsche people from years gone by and up until now

AFN, Auto Farm, CS Engineering, Charles Ivey, G L Myers, Leigh's Garage, Edwards Garages, Martin Horner, The Garage, TAG (Tim Alziari Garage) Canford Classics et al

The car was serviced and MoT'd by Canford Classics prior to our vendor's collection late last year. He has had a new dash top supplied/fitted (old one was cracked), new headlining and sun visors (deteriorated due to old age), a couple of bits of cosmetic paintwork for small dents and scratches, and then had it fully detailed in early 2018

The 2.4 S is regarded as one of the finest and most coveted 911 models ever, and having the chance to buy such a rare, matching numbers, right-hand drive example, is certainly not to be missed.
