DESCRIPTION
The Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV Bertone Coupe, in its final evolution, was as ground breaking as Giugiaro's earlier work for Bertone and it is still regarded as one of the prettiest Coupes ever produced. His design had a stunning visual balance, that was enhanced by the clever use of shaping to the front and rear screens. Introduced in late 1972 at Gardone Riviera, the final production run of the Bertone Coupe completely satisfied the Italian market, which was still sensitive to the over 2-litre tax system. Alfa Romeo would produce over 36,000 units to meet demand worldwide of this well regarded Bertone design. It proved itself at all levels of motorsport from touring cars to rallying.
On offer here is a 1974 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV. It has competed on various rallies over recent years, most notably the Tour Britannia 2012 where it won its class. For 2013 the vendor has put the car through a programme of rebuild/restoration which began with a full engine rebuild to 'fast road' specification. At the same time, the braking system was completely overhauled including the fitting of 2 new servo's for front & rear circuits. This work was carried out by marque specialists, Thames Motor Co. in Dorset at a cost of over £3000 (invoices available).
Following this work, the car was used on several local club historic regularity events. The engine has now covered approximately 1000 miles since its rebuild and has just had an oil change.
Internally the car has a full welded roll cage which includes door bars. The seats are Sparco (almost new) and excellent condition as are the TRS full harness seat belts which are dated to 2017. A new Terratrip intercom has been fitted and comes complete with new 'Practice Headsets' which are housed in the helmet hammocks behind the front seats. A fully plumbed in fire extinguisher system is fitted and also a separate hand-held extinguisher mounted on the rear cage.
A new quick release 'Nardi' steering wheel has been fitted to ease getting in & out of the car. A tyre pressure monitor unit is fitted on the dash as is a Brantz trip-meter and map light.
The engine is running on twin 40 DHLA Dellorto carburettors and drives through a 5 speed gearbox and LSD. The fuel system has also been refreshed with new fuel pump, filters and lines.
As a way of finishing off the rebuild, the car has just been collected from specialist body and paint shop where it has undergone a full body strip and restoration including a respray in original colours to a very standard.
This Alfa has the benefit of HSCC Identity Form for 'Period H. 70's Historic Road Sports' category. It also comes with 3 sets of wheels & tyres as follows; 1 set of silver 'Minilite style' alloys with standard road tyres and 2 sets of black 'Minilite style' alloys. One set fitted with a set of part worn 'road legal' slick tyres and the second set fitted with new unused 'road legal' slick tyres.
This represents an exciting package for rally, regularity events, or even fast-road use. Whichever you choose, it is a very well-engineered Alfa Romeo with a Tour Britannia class win to its credit and realistically guided.
