SUMMARY
Left-hand drive V4-engined 96 presented with a nod to the model's rally success.
DESCRIPTION
- Renowned for its success on the rally stage, piloted by the likes of Stig Blomqvist and Erik Carlsson, the Saab 96 was anything but conventional
- Originally a three-cylinder two-stroke, however by 1967 they were becoming rather dated and Saab introduced the 96 powered by the 60bhp, 1,498cc, four-stroke V4 engine originally developed for the Taunus 15M
- The model remained in production until 1980 and this example, dating from 1974, has been in current ownership for six years
- When our vendor parted with his own V4 many years ago for just £140, he yearned for another for years to come
- This Carolina Blue example was sourced in Sweden and looks the part, with nods to the model's rally success including a matt black bonnet with straps, big spotlights and a competition steering wheel
- It benefitted from a new interior a couple of years ago
- Beautifully put together and cleverly engineered, a Saab 96 is an interesting and practical classic and this cared-for example is worthy of your inspection
