Only 122 Ferrari Daytona 365 GTS/4 Spyders were built originally and they very rarely come to market, but when they do the numbers are rather serious. Even recreations of this timeless classic are hard to come by. When the Florida-based, TV police drama 'Miami Vice was broadcast in 1984, it featured a realistic replica Daytona, however, the legal team at Ferrari got wind of it and was not too keen on the likeness. The Daytona replica business, short-lived as it was, came to a rather abrupt end and so when a well-built and finished Spyder replica does appear for sale, its noteworthy.

E.G. Autokraft/PKA/Arrow was the work of Emilio Garcia and Peter Jacobs. Emilio hailed from Spain where he achieved some success preparing race cars locally. He then came to the UK and worked in coachbuilding and restoration before moving on to race preparation for Bell and Colvill. He eventually opened his own workshop and worked on many prestigious cars including Ferraris. Obtaining spare parts for these was always difficult so he started to manufacture his own replica parts which inevitably led to the idea of producing a whole car, but what? Having helped lots of Ferrari owners ''chop'' their beautiful Berlinettas into Spyders, he decided to create the best Daytona Spyder copy he could and he turned to Peter Jacobs to make the bodies. Peter was universally recognised as the master of GRP and carbon fibre at that time and had created bodies for the RS200 Ford rally car and the 'GTD', a very well made Ford GT 40 replica.

The outside of their project car was naturally going to be an inch-perfect copy of the Daytona Spyder, however, the chassis had yet to be designed. They eventually settled on a multi-tubular framework similar to the original with 3” main tubes that was able to accept V12 or straight-six engines from Jaguar or Daimler The floorplan was bonded to the chassis and the outer panels were originally available in GRP but later Carbon Fibre. Jaguar mechanicals( engine, drive train, brakes and suspension) were chosen as parts and service items were readily available. Headlights were operated by rear window motors from the donor car and the hood was a direct replacement for the original. Front /rear weight distribution was 47/53 very similar to the original car. One of their marketing claims at the time was that the dimensions match the original so perfectly that genuine Ferrari parts could be used if required.

First registered in 1985, this beautifully finished Rosso Corsa Daytona recreation is constructed out of GRP and houses a V12 Jaguar engine and manual gearbox. The multi-tubular chassis holding the Daytona together is finished in black and is in excellent condition. Aural expectation has been resolved by replacing the whisper-quiet Jaguar exhaust with an ANSA system. The car sits on a set of Ronal Penta 15-inch wheels with three-eared replica knockoffs wearing Michelin XWX tyres that show minimal use.

The 'Daytona' seats, door cards and the centre console are finished in a dark tan leather with dark chocolate piping and seat ribs, all in great condition and colour. This is complemented by the new Chestnut luxury wool carpet bound in a dark brown piping. The dash is wrapped in black leather with an aluminium and black leather three-spoke steering wheel and the clock binnacle is faced with aluminium and houses the Smiths gauges. The cabin is very evocative of the original and is well executed. The black manual soft top roof and new rear screen are in great condition

Old MoTs show that the car was used up to 1995 when it was dry stored until being recommissioned in late 2016/early 2017, at which point, the drive train and running gear were inspected and serviced by Mistermatic Jaguar specialists in Swansea. We understand that over £10,000 has been spent bringing the car up to its current condition.

This superbly finished EG Autocraft Daytona (the V5 states this car has been registered as a Daytona Spyder) has only covered 38,428 miles, and this shows in the way it looks and drives.

Created by a talented motor racing engineer, clothed by one of the country's leading GRP experts, powered by the superb Jaguar V12, and an exact replica of one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever - what's not to like?
