DESCRIPTION
The Ford Capri was designed to be the Ford Mustang of Europe. A mind boggling array of options meant that the Capri could be whatever you wanted it to be; just like the Mustang. The Capri was in fact a far more varied animal than the Mustang with engines ranging from 1300cc to 3100cc as well as a myriad of trim specifications. The most popular engine was the 1600cc unit, but the object of most desire was the three litre version, which was available from 1969 Mk.I to the 1981 as the 3.0S and then latterly, the 2.8. The Capri was ready for a special preview in Bonn on 21st January, 1969. It then went on to be released to the press and public at the Brussels Motor Show on 24th January. There had previously been a press preview in Cyprus but Ford had requested that nothing about the new car would be published until 24th January to coincide with the Motor Show. Surprisingly, this request was honoured and the Capri caused a sensation at the Show. The model would stay in production for 18 years, 1969 to 1987.
This extremely rare 1976 Mk II Capri 3.0 litre Ghia automatic must be one of the finest and most original examples left in existence. The car has covered a quite incredible 7,800 miles from new. The majority of this mileage was covered during the first year of PAR 958R's life. Then, due to the passing away of its first owner, it was bequeathed to his son. He then carefully stored and maintained his father's pride and joy. In 2005, the second owner bought the Capri and sold it to the current owner approximately three years ago.
Other than a stainless steel exhaust and refurbished alloy wheels, PAR 958R is as it left Tricentrol Cars, Chelmsford on 5th October 1976. The vendor states "this car drives as one would expect with no rattles or bangs and is as near to a perfect example as one is likely to find today." Supplied with its original service book and folder, this Ghia Capri is a very special 'museum quality' investment proposition and has never been shown or offered to the public for sale.
