1976 Triumph TR7/8 Works Replica

Launched in 1975, the TR7 marked a radical departure for Triumph - with shockingly new styling by Harris Mann, its wedge-shaped body and sawn off rump divided opinion like no Triumph before or since.

From 1976 to 1980 British Leyland ran a Works team of TR7s in International rallying. These cars were initially built with the 16-valve Dolomite Sprint engine but were then later switched to the Rover V8 engine shortly before the introduction of the new TR8 model. The Triumph TR7 V8 was successful in rallying, mainly on tarmac events. The TR7 V8 was most successful in the hands of the late Tony Pond, the exploits of the charismatic Tony driving a "Works" entered Triumph TR7 fired the patriotic imagination of the public, winning in Ypres and on the Manx at a time when Triumphs' competition heritage needed reviving.

Built November 1976 as a standard TR7 Coupe and purchased by our vendor 2005, this car was transformed into a detailed replica of the works 'TR8's of the late 70s with a view to rallying the car to its full potential. However, this was never realised due to other commitments.

The car is built to the highest standard with over £30,000. Under the bonnet is a 3.9 V8 EFi engine, built with a Piper 285 Camshaft along with Piper High Rev anti pump lifters, combined with anti coil bind valve springs. Mated to a LT-77 Gearbox via a lightened flywheel the engine is reputedly producing a whopping 470bhp.

The cockpit of the car features a full roll cage along with 5 point harnesses and a plumbed in fire extinguisher system. Also fitted is an 'in car' adjustable brake balance and a hydraulic handbrake.

The suspension is fully polybushed with a 5 Link rear suspension plus adjustable shock absorbers (coilover front suspension) and 22mm Anti-Roll bar fitted with anti dive kit. Also fitted to the car is a big brake kit with discs all round.

Presented with a terrific history file and filled to the brim with expensive features, its now ready to be let out on the stages and is being offered here at a fraction of the cost to build.
