SUMMARY
Pretty, low mileage Karmann Beetle, imported into the UK in 1999 and fully refreshed a few years ago.
DESCRIPTION
- Believed to have been one of the last few hundred convertibles manufactured in Germany before production was moved to Mexico, this fuel-injection Beetle 1303 Karmann Cabriolet was delivered new to Los Angeles where it spent its life in the California sunshine
- Imported to the UK in 1999, the car received an MOT in November 1999 showing the Californian number plate, 3DAD 542, (on file) and showing a mileage of 6,091
- When our vendor came across the Beetle in 2016, it had been stored unused, unregistered and never driven in the UK since being imported
- Subsequently, it was fully refreshed, including a respray, new interior, new mohair roof and was fully recommissioned before finally being UK-registered with the DVLA on 01/01/2019
- Now finished in red over a new black leather-trimmed interior, sporting a new black mohair roof and powered by its original air-cooled 1.6-litre flat-four
- It's supplied with a Volkswagen Auto Museum Heritage Certificate which shows the car's original specification confirming chassis, engine and gearbox numbers all match as original, and invoices for c.£20,000 for the restoration. The MOT is valid until March 2025
- Spending half of its life in the Californian sun and the other half stored away in the UK, this pretty Karmann Beetle is almost certainly unique
N.B. The Cherished Registration Number illustrated, DPG 5J, does not form part of the sale.

Vehicle History
Remarks
MOT from when the vehicle first arrived from the States, along with invoices for all the resotration work carried out. With a documented 6091 miles when imported in 1999 the car was then off the road for twenty years until 2019 and has done very few miles since restoration. Still less than 6500 miles including driving here today. It is impossible to say that is 100% correct but it has spent half its life off the roac and the other half in the Californian sunshine. For the last three years it has been sat in my garage. It simply needs driving much more than I have time to do. The Volkswagen Auto Museum Heritage Certificate shows the cars original specification. The Chassis, Engine and Gearbox numbers all match as original.
