1979 Alfa Romeo Spider 2000 Veloce

The Alfa Romeo Spider was produced from 1966 to 1993. It is widely regarded as a design classic and it remained in production for almost three decades with only minor aesthetic and mechanical changes.

1971 saw the Spider Veloce get a new, larger power plant - a 1962cc unit - and consequently the name was changed from '1750 Spider Veloce' to '2000 Spider Veloce'. The 1600 Spider restarted production a year later and emerged as the 'Spider 1600 Junior', it was in fact visually identical to the 1300. The 1300 and 2000 cars were modified in 1974 and 1975 respectively to include two small seats behind the front seats, thus becoming a "two plus two".

This lovely Alfa Romeo Spider finished in surely the best colour, Dutch Blue, and it was registered in Edinburgh in 1979 where the first owner kept it until 2004. Following the sale of the car to the second owner an extensive rolling restoration was undertaken between 2005 and 2010. This included a bare metal respray, refurbished interior and the replacement of the car's running gear. This included an engine and gearbox rebuild in 2005 with a supporting history on file including receipts for the work carried out during this period. The car was regularly used and enjoyed by the previous owner and since the initial restoration was started it has covered 38,000 miles in the past 8 years.

Having been sold to our vendor in 2011 further general maintenance work was carried out; this included refurbishing the brakes, dampers and shocks. The car has been used for short trips and weekend driving so it has only covering less than 6000 miles in its current ownership. It is presented in superb condition. Ready to be enjoyed by the new owner these Alfa Romeo Spiders are great looking, usable classic cars that drive as well as they look!
