SUMMARY

A C16, UK-supplied, right-hand drive example benefitting from a recent body and mechanical restoration. First time on the market since 1989.

DESCRIPTION

Much of the Porsche 911's development had resulted from the factory's racing program and it was the period 'Group 4' homologation rules, which required 400 road cars to be built, that spurred the development of 'Project 930' - the legendary 911 Turbo. In production from April 1975, the Turbo married a KKK turbocharger to the 3-litre Carrera RSR engine in road trim - a combination that delivered 260bhp for a top speed of 155mph. In 1978, the Turbo's engine was enlarged to 3.3-litres, gaining an intercooler in the process, power increased to 300bhp and the top speed went up to 160mph.

But the Turbo wasn't just about top speed, it was also the best equipped 911 and amazingly flexible, hence only four speeds in the gearbox, being capable of reaching 100mph from a standstill in a remarkable 14 seconds! The Turbo's characteristic flared wheel arches and 'tea tray' rear spoiler had already been seen on the Carrera model whilst the interior was the most luxurious yet seen in a 911, featuring leather upholstery, air conditioning and electric windows. More refined than hitherto, yet retaining its high performance edge, the Porsche 911 Turbo sold in the thousands, becoming the definitive sports car of its age.

On offer here is a C16 UK-supplied right-hand drive 930 Turbo that’s being offered publicly for the first time since 1989. Finished in Guards Red with a black leather interior, the 911 has benefited from significant recent expenditure following a long period of being off the road in dry storage.

The body and mechanicals have been comprehensively rebuilt or restored with invoices in the file amounting to over £50,000. The body was taken back to bare metal and superbly refinished in classic Guards Red, a painstaking process which in itself generated an invoice in excess of £25,000. The black leather interior had remained in excellent condition and was reused, a great choice when possible as an existing interior with negligible wear tends to fit and feel that much better without the inevitable stiffness of a brand new interior. A look at our images will illustrate the sheer quality of the work carried out and justify the significant investment with the car's history file containing all the relevant invoices.

The indicated mileage at the time of cataloguing was 79,396 and the car is accompanied by its original Porsche book pack, three sets of keys, old MOTs and tax discs along with the aforementioned invoices for the recent restoration. The last stamp in the service book was placed there by Sam Lander Porsche Engineering in August 2024, however its immediate predecessor was way back in 1989 when the mileage was 71,895, meaning that this remarkable Turbo has only covered 7,500 miles in the past 35 years.

This beautiful, classically presented 930 Turbo represents a wonderful opportunity to own a highly useable example of one of these iconic German coupés.

NB; This vehicle will be issued with a fresh MOT prior to the sale.
