SUMMARY
A superbly engineered and carefully detailed re-creation of one of the rare non-injection, turbocharged XR3s that took part in the Ford Escort Turbo Championship in 1983 and 1984.
DESCRIPTION
- In order to keep the Ford ‘Clubman’ happy, Boreham promoted a fixed-specification Escort Turbo Rally Championship to run alongside major UK rallies during 1983 and 1984
- Private owners were invited to buy their own XR3s (not the fuel-injected XR3i as the Weber carb was an important part of the spec) and Ford provided a complete Turbocharging Kit and Bilstein Series X suspension at a cost of £1,350. They were often referred to as the RS1600T
- Well scrutineered, the Series was very competitive and in 1983 was won by Mark Lovell who went on to be a Ford works driver
- Based on a standard 1981 XR3, this fabulous example was restored and rebuilt as an 'homage' to those rare rally cars from 1983 and 1984
- It was fully rebuilt mechanically and cosmetically with incredible attention to detail, accurately replicating those period cars and there is a full photographic record of the process
- The car is well known and successful within the show circuit and is multi magazine featured
- Performance Fords continue to thrive in today's market and this stunning representation of a rare model is sure to complement any collection of Blue Oval Rally Cars
