DESCRIPTION

Porsche wanted to enter the Group 4 Sports Car Class for Le Mans in 1980 and base the car on their successful 924 mainstream model. The left hand drive versions were labelled 937 while the right hand drive was 938. All non-essential elements were removed from the car in an effort to reduce weight. The vehicle was subsequently entered into the gruelling 24 Hours of Le Mans but in order to comply with homologation regulations road going versions had to be produced. Porsche answered this rule with the Carrera GT which produced 210 bhp. Standard specification included a close ratio dog leg 5 speed G/box, LSD, Bilstein shock absorbers, polyurethane plastic front and rear flared guards, a polyurethane plastic front spoiler, and a bonnet mounted air scoop for the intercooler. With a 2 litre turbo charged engine producing 210 bhp, it will reach a top speed of 150 mph and has a 0 - 60 time of 6.5 seconds. This right-hand drive Porsche 924 Carrera GT was first registered on 10th November 1980 and was first owned by Porsche Cars Great Britain (PCGB). Evidence in the history file suggests this car to be the first right-hand drive 924 Carrera GT off the production line and the 1980 motor show car. It was used throughout 1981 by the Managing Director of PCGB and was passed to AFN Isleworth to race for the 1982 BRSCC championship. This is confirmed by Porsche in correspondence with a previous owner. There is even a chassis enquiry certificate from Porsche stating that there is no damage on file to date (1994). Raced by Tony Lanfranchi for one year only, at the last race in October 1982 the car finished first at Brands Hatch. Between 1982 and 1994 the car was prepared by AFN Isleworth and in 1994/1995 it made its way to ADDspeed Engineering and Autobahn Porsche respectively to be stripped and taken back to road car specification. There is a letter in the history file that shows the speedo was changed in 1995 at 20,557 miles due to the trip meter jamming the mileometer. The original speedo is still with the car and the current mileage is 5,500 miles, making the total just over 26,000 miles. The service booklet shows 13 stamps from PCGB Reading, AFN engineering and Autobahn Porsche. The current owner will have the car serviced and a fresh MoT supplied prior to the auction. Finished in Diamond Silver Metallic paint with black velour interior, this non-sunroof original UK car is one of only 75 right-hand drive models produced and has a superb history file to boot. Not to be missed by the discerning Porsche collector.
