1981 Porsche 924 Carrera GT

Porsche wanted to enter the Group 4 Sports Car Class for Le Mans in 1980 and base the car on their successful 924 mainstream model. The left hand drive versions were labelled 937 while the right hand drive was 938. All non-essential elements were removed from the car in an effort to reduce weight. The vehicle was subsequently entered into the gruelling 24 Hours of Le Mans but in order to comply with homologation regulations road going versions had to be produced. Porsche answered this rule with the Carrera GT which produced 210 bhp. Standard specification included a close ratio dog leg 5 speed G/box, LSD, Bilstein shock absorbers, polyurethane plastic front and rear flared guards, a polyurethane plastic front spoiler, and a bonnet mounted air scoop for the intercooler. With a 2 litre turbo charged engine producing 210 bhp, it will reach a top speed of 150 mph and has a 0 - 60 time of 6.5 seconds.

This particular car is 1 of only 75 right hand drives that were ever manufactured; a genuine GT chassis number will contain '93ZBN7 within the number. The 7 after the N means that it is a 937 model - Porsches designation for the 924 Carrera GT. Following the N7 will be 00 and then the numbers 051 to 450. This particular car is 393, making the full chassis number WPOZZZ93ZBN700393, and was supplied new by JCT 600 of Leeds on the 20th of February 1981.

We are informed by the vendor that this very special Porsche drives without fault, the mileage of just under 80,000 miles is genuine and supported by service documentation and previous MOT certificates. All electrics work perfectly and the steering and suspension are both tight and firm, all fluid levels are correct, clean and fresh and all coolant hoses are soft and supple. The 16'' Fuch alloys are in excellent condition and shod with excellent tyres all round. Importantly the car has had a recent major service which included a cambelt change and a new MOT carried out by a recognised independent Porsche specialist who also reported the car to be in excellent order.

The 924 Carrera GT is a very rare and special motor car, in recent years the prices of these has risen substantially and as such this represents a unique opportunity to own one of the rarest Porsche motor cars in the UK.
