SUMMARY
A rare 1981 Volvo 262C - left-hand drive, US-import finished in triple-black and indicating 62,217 miles.
DESCRIPTION
- Based on the 264 six-cylinder saloon, the 262C was designed in-house by Volvo's Jan Wilsgaard but largely built by Bertone in Turin for the 1977–1981 model years
- It was mainly aimed at the US 'Executive' market with just 200 arriving in the UK
- Volvo emphasised the exclusivity of the 262C by fitting Crown insignia on the C-pillars whilst furnishing the four-seat interior in swathes of shiny, gathered and pleated black leather
- Dating from 1981, this example is finished in black and was imported from the States by our, 262-enthusiast, vendor in 2022
- It's powered by the 2.8-litre PRV V6 as fitted to the Renault Alpine GTA and DeLorean DMC-12
- Subject to a bare metal exterior respray in March 2023 with the steering rack rebuilt at the same time and four new tyres fitted later in the year
- The current indicated mileage is 62,217 and the last MOT ran out in May 2023. Consequently, the car will be sold with no current MOT and is guided accordingly

Remarks
Subject to a bare metal exterior respray in March last year, the paintwork is very good and the car was shown, pre-respray, at the Restoration Show 2023, where we put the bumpers and all the brightwork back on; three local shows, plus VOLVO #600 at Elvington 2023, Sywell and the Classic Motor Show last November, driving itself to each event, while also taking in a trip to Pickering to visit Mathewsons after the fabulous Elvington gathering. Each journey running faultlessly.

A good interior which is responding well to feeding. The dashtop is split, but the previous US owner had had a dash cover made to fit and it is embroidered with 262C beside the binnacle cover.

It arrived with all new brake discs and calipers, water pump, a good interior which is responding well to feeding and an The engine runs and drives beautifully. Showing just 62,217 miles on the clock (20/02/2024, I've no reason to believe that this is not genuine; the PRV engine, which is V6 unleaded petrol, is the later 2.8lt and the car is one of the last produced.

Remarks
With two other 262C's (one in our ownership for 40 years) this beauty is now looking for a new home. Once regarded as a “Marmite” car, the 262C has now gained quite a following and is certainly on the up value wise. The car is, of course, mot and excise duty exempt being 43 years old this year.
