SUMMARY
Beautiful, left-hand drive, 512 Boxer with just over 16,000 miles and accompanied by the all-important Classiche Red Book.
DESCRIPTION
The BBi was the final evolution of the Boxer and was launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1981. The styling was left largely unaltered, but the car now featured an advanced, and far more reliable, Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system offering 360bhp at 6,200rpm, 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds and 179mph. Maranello's investment in mid-engine engineering ensured the BB's stylistic DNA was to be around until production of the Ferrari 328 ended in 1989, some 18 years since the launch of the original Boxer, the 365 BB.
Offered here is a fabulous Ferrari 512 BBi manufactured in 1981 and supplied new by Auto Becker, Dusseldorf, Germany in January 1982. Delivered in left-hand drive and finished in Rosso Corsa with a rare specification which included body coloured spoiler and carburettor lids. Imported into the UK and registered in 2009, our vendor purchased the Ferrari directly from HR Owen, London in 2017 with the agreement that the car would be supplied with full Ferrari Classiche. After some alterations to return the car to correct factory specification including changing the inlet manifold from red to silver, the carburettor lids back to body colour and few other details deemed necessary by the Classiche department, the car was awarded full Classiche Certification in March 2019. Consequently, this beautiful 512 BBi is considered to be 'matching numbers' and mostly correct to the original factory specification.
Indicating just 25,776km (16,016 miles) from new and supported by a comprehensive history file including its original service book stamped up-to-date. Also within the history file is a current UK V5C registration document ready for export or transfer, previous German registration documents, a wealth of invoices for maintenance over the years, MOTs dating back to import to the UK and the Classiche Red Book. Most recent maintenance has been carried out at HR Owen Ferrari with the most recent annual service to Ferrari specification dated 28th February 2022.
Overall the BBi presents beautifully and has a lovely feeling of a well-maintained classic Ferrari, fires into life with the first turn of the key and sounds healthy with no excessive smoke to report. In the cabin, the Daytona seats and interior finishes are also very good with only the minimal wear that you might expect from a 40 year old BBi with relatively low mileage.
This is a very well preserved 512 BBi, a model that had previously been somewhat overlooked with values quite low for a period of time and consequently many examples sadly suffered from neglect with most now requiring a substantial restoration. Values are now rather robust for the right examples, and rightfully so, as a handsome hand-built Ferrari GT from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Chassis no. 39725 comes to market meticulously maintained by a Ferrari main agent, certified by Ferrari Classiche and ready for the next chapter.
