1982 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL

Mercedes-Benz introduced the R107 series in 1972 and built the car until 1989. This was the period where Mercedes-Benz build quality was very superior to just about every other brand on the market and the 500 SL was their ultimate soft top flagship in the mid 1980's, frequently resulting in a 3 to 5 year waiting list.

Finished in Manganese Brown with full Nappa Safron leather, this original right hand drive 500 SL was first registered in 1982 and exported to Jersey for just 3 years, returning on the 25-10-1985. First registered to Constable Ian Skipper O.B.E, it has had only 3 owners from new, the second for 27 years. It was supplied with the important factory options of leather upholstery, rear seats, air conditioning and cruise control. It presents very well today and has subsequently had a discreet JVC unit fitted, which allows a hands free bluetooth telephone connection, as well as an MP3 player and I-Pod connection. In addition a Clifford G5 650 CAT 1 alarm and immobiliser have been fitted, as well as both a factory hard top (and hoist) and outdoor cockpit cover which are both available with the car.

Alloy wheels, front fog lights, top tint windscreen and headlamp wash/wipe were all standard but the subtle additon of a later wind deflector and park distance control front and rear are useful add ons. The comprehensive history file confirms the current mileage of just 31,000-an average of just over 1,000 miles per annum-and the car comes to the sale with a current MOT until 25/02/2014.
