SUMMARY
A very rare American classic in extraordinary order.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
The Chevy Van is a range of vans produced by GM from 1964 to 1996. The vehicle was offered in both passenger van and cargo van configurations. Our vehicle belongs to the G-series of the third generation, which is part of one of the longest-lasting platforms designed by General Motors, and has the long-wheelbase configuration of 510 cm.
In the new G20 series, the front brakes became disc brakes, replacing the drum brakes, which were kept at the rear. The automatic transmission changed from 3 to 4 speeds, but the most interesting update in 1982 was the engine, with the introduction of the 6200 cc naturally aspirated V8 diesel engine. Aesthetically, there are slight changes, including rectangular headlights, a front grille with horizontal bars, a sliding side door, but most notably, the introduction of the 8-seat station wagon series called "Beauville," which featured updated seats, superior interior finishes, a large rear cargo area, and a dual air-conditioning system.
A true precursor to the minivan, it has remained in popular culture, appearing in many films and TV series of the 1980s.
The Car:
Built in 1984, this Beauville is one of only two cars imported into Italy in period by the official importer, and it is the last one that survives. Its survival is surely down to the fact it has covered a genuine 34,000 km from new.
The interior is original and like new, while the bodywork was repainted a few years ago, but not due to any issues—purely because the previous owner found the standard Beauville white stripes model too flashy. Mechanically, it is in good condition and has been recently serviced, including the diesel engine. For good measure, the fuel tank and its pipes were also removed and cleaned at this time. There is no rust whatsoever, and the body is in perfect condition both externally and underneath, having always been garaged.
Summary:
A usable and extremely rare American classic that requires nothing.
