1984 Lynx Eventer XJS #20

Why didn't Jaguar do it themselves? Everyone wondered. A more practical, proper four-seater shooting-brake version of the XJS seemed an obvious development. But it was left to Lynx, the UK-based engineering and design company, to create the Lynx Eventer - an estate car version of the XJS.

Each car was built strictly to order on a custom-made jig (taking 14 weeks from order to delivery). The result was a hand-built estate which addressed not only the XJS' inadequate rear seating but also the Coupe's poor rear visibility. The XJS Coupe's buttresses were replaced by an extended roof with rear and side windows, offering a vast expanse of glass. Furthermore, a generous rear hatch offered a stylish and practical alternative to both the severely limited standard XJS and the featureless volume-production estates on the market.

What was amazing at the time was how competent the Eventer was to drive. The rearward shift in weight distribution required stiffer rear suspension but the XJS accepted this modification gracefully. The Eventer actually weighed less than the standard XJS - so acceleration was sharper. Here was a small, home-grown engineering company with the vision and the skills to create a car that drove like the product of a multi-million pound R&D programme, matched by a level of finishing and detail to rival the best.

Built by Lynx in 1984, only 67 Lynx Eventers were produced and offered here is build number 20. Registered 1st April 1984 as A6 BEB it was kept by its first owner until June 2006 when our vendor acquired the car.

Showing 71,200 miles this particular car has always been much loved and was subject to a sympathetic body renovation by its original owner from 1999 - 2000.

Originally finished in Antelope Bronze the decision was made to repaint the car to its current, arguably more attractive, Black in 2010 by its current owner. At this time, any potential areas of bodywork that required attention were also addressed, ensuring that the car is in excellent condition all-round.

With just 67 Lynx Eventers built, this car is not only extremely rare but also an eminently useable and practical classic car, sure to provide enjoyment and investment for the successful bidder.
