For over sixty years now, when old Land Rovers are past their best they are usually parked in a corner of a barn with the avowed intention of “Fixing it one day”. There it will stay for a while and occasionally Number 1 Son or an impecunious nephew or someone will spend a few hours getting it going and the Landy will provide inexpensive transport to the pub for a few weeks until University beckons. At this point, it's frequently abandoned in the corner of a field against a stone wall, there to provide a climbing frame for Briar and Honeysuckle, a windbreak for the sheep, or the perfect subject for local artists. However, over the last decade or so, with prices starting to climb, a number of old Land Rovers have been rescued and returned to life, some just enough to function well and become legal, some as smart restoration projects and some, like this one, win the 'Land Rover Lottery'.

This 1984 Land Rover Series III 88” was one such 'lost soul' having passed through a number of owners who never got around to starting the restoration. However, the owner previous to our vendor restored this cracking Series III to within an inch of its life. Apparently, it was his intention to keep it forever but a blown engine in his Aston Martin required the release of funds. The restoration of A209 KHP is too extensive to list here but is based on a new galvanised chassis with all new parts wherever required. All rivets and spot-welds are to factory spec and all nuts and bolts in stainless steel. Rebuilt engine, gearbox and transmission, new suspension, new brakes, new everything! It was then correctly finished (not too glossy-just as it would have been) in Pastel Green with a new black interior and a new canvas top.

This Series III has to be one of the best on the market, it's certainly the best we have ever seen.
