1985 Porsche 911 2.8 RSR Replica

The Porsche 911 2.8 RSR could not have had a better race debut, winning the 1973 Daytona 24hrs virtually straight from the factory. Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood taking overall victory following the demise of the prototypes. It was equally as dominant in the European GT Championship. The 2.8 RSR was truly a production based racer, the original underpinnings were from the road 911S and a dynasty would evolve to rightly put the Porsche 911 as one of the greatest competitors at all levels of motorsport.

This is well known RSR Replica finished in period Signal Orange. It was originally built by a respected Porsche specialist for a client to enter the "Cannonball 8000 Rally' of 2008, however, the event was cancelled. It was based on a 1985 911 Carrera 3.2 shell and all the wings and bonnet are steel. The duck-tail is GRP. The history file shows pictures of the very fine 1985 Carrera which was used as the donor car. The wheels are the correct 9J and 11J banded 15" Fuchs as used in period with Michelin tyres that complement the look. The interior has leather period style buckets seats with Luke harnesses. There is a RSR type half roll cage.

The history file is very comprehensive showing a top-end rebuild to the engine at 104,000 miles. It was also mildly modified. In September 2007 the gearbox (the 915 5-speed unit) was fully rebuilt and a new Sachs Power clutch fitted. A new alternator, fuel pump, Bilstein Dampers and turbo tie rods were also fitted.

In total, this is a very well executed RSR Replica which drives exceptionally well and sounds just incredible. This is a properly engineered Porsche with handling to match. Signal Orange perfectly encompasses the period look and the whole package is great fun and an awesome presence.
