DESCRIPTION

The Porsche 930 Turbo was a genuine 'Supercar' that defined the Seventies and Eighties and was one of the fastest production cars available at the time. It was first seen at the 1973 Paris Auto Show and full production commenced two years later. The basic engine underpinnings came from the Carrera 2.7RS which was increased to 3.0Litres and, of course, turbocharged with technology gained from Porsche's 917/30 Can-Am programme. The bodywork received special treatment to produce one of the most aggressive looking Porsches ever made with its wide arches and impressive rear whale-tail. The brakes came directly from the Porsche 917 race car. The final evolution of the 930 Turbo saw the engine capacity increased to 3299cc, with improved upgrades on the intercooler and, for some, the fitment of the G50 transmission.

Originally sold by AFN Porsche, Middlesex, this 930 3.3 Turbo was ordered by a Mr A. Kingston of Hounslow and was delivered on 1st January 1985. Mr Kingston clearly enjoyed driving his new Porsche, covering a staggering 11,370 miles by the time the car had its first service at AFN Porsche on 5th February 1985! An old Registration Certificate in the history file indicates that ownership of the vehicle was taken over by a Mr A. Bacus of Chiswick on 10th February 1988, with the car bearing the registration plate "B396 EDP.'

It was on 20th March 1990 that a Mr Martin Cramp, of Stourport-on-Severn, purchased the car and within a matter of months decided to transform the look to a "Flachbau" or Flat Nose style front end. The Flat Nose stemmed from the Porsche 935, which had been successfully campaigned in long distance endurance racing in the late 1970s and early '80s. Mr Cramp commissioned AutoTech Motor Engineers of Stourbridge, an Approved Porsche Body Repairer, to carry out a full 'Flat Nose' conversion on the car. This was done over a 3 year period, costing £21,543 in parts alone and a further £9,000 in labour, giving a staggering total bill of £30,543! A comprehensive invoice listing all factory parts and correspondence between owner and specialist can be found within the history file, documenting the work undertaken. It was around this time that the registration was changed to the private plate "MJC 88.'

In April 1999, the next owner, a Mr P. Miles, purchased the car, with just over 44,000 miles on the odometer and put it in his car collection. A letter in the history file states the car was kept in a Carcoon, started once a fortnight and serviced each year; even though he only covered 2,400 miles in his 9 years of ownership. The following owner bought the car from Mr Miles in 2008 and placed the apt registration plate "B16 PCH' on the car.

Our vendor purchased the car in 2009, at which time it had covered approximately 48,000 miles. Since then, he has used and enjoyed the car sparingly, bringing it up-to-date with a current odometer reading of 57,477 miles. Presented in purple with a deep maroon interior, the paint is in good condition, although we feel it would benefit from a machine polish. The cabin houses a CD player but the original Porsche supplied radio does come with the car, along with the original radio code card. The driver's side seat shows some wear on the bolster, which is easily treatable and remedied.

With its original Porsche wallet containing the service book, drivers manual and maintenance record, a history file containing old MoT certificates and other bills, plus a current MoT until 2.12.15, this wonderful Flat Nose 3.3 Turbo is not to be missed.
