SUMMARY
A 'C16' UK-supplied 930 Turbo with only 19,046 miles from new, from long term ownership and undoubtedly one of the best we have ever offered.
DESCRIPTION
Much of the Porsche 911's development had resulted from the factory's racing program and it was the period 'Group 4' homologation rules which required 400 road cars to be built, that spurred the development of 'Project 930' - the legendary 911 Turbo. In production from April 1975, the Turbo married a KKK turbocharger to the 3-litre Carrera RSR engine in road trim - a combination that delivered 260bhp for a top speed of 155mph. In 1978, the Turbo's engine was enlarged to 3.3-litres, gaining an intercooler in the process, power increased to 300bhp and the top speed went up to 160mph.
But the Turbo wasn't just about top speed, it was also the best equipped 911 and amazingly flexible, hence only four speeds in the gearbox, being capable of reaching 100mph from a standstill in a remarkable 14 seconds! The Turbo's characteristic flared wheel arches and 'tea tray' rear spoiler had already been seen on the Carrera model whilst the interior was the most luxurious yet seen in a 911, featuring leather upholstery, air-conditioning and electric windows. More refined than hitherto, yet retaining its high performance edge, the Porsche 911 Turbo sold in the thousands, becoming the definitive sports car of its age.
Iconic Auctioneers are proud to present to market this fantastic 'C16' UK-supplied, right-hand drive 930 Turbo that has covered just 19,046 miles from new. It's finished in Grand Prix White complemented by a 'Special Wishes' full leather dual-colour interior and an impressive specification which includes an electric sunroof, electric sports seats and climate-control. It has formed part of our vendor's Collection since 2011 and is unquestionably one of the best we have ever seen.
The car was built in late 1986, making it a 1987 model year and was first supplied in November 1986 by Parks of Exeter, the official Porsche dealer in the South West, to a resident of Torpoint in Cornwall. He returned the car to Parks in February 1987 at 783 miles for the first service and sold the car shortly afterwards - no doubt tempted by the healthy premiums these cars were attracting at the time.
In March 1988, respected specialist dealer Bramley Porsche in Surrey, purchased the car for one of their loyal customers, Howard Clark, the well-known Ryder Cup golfer. He kept the car for two years and used it only as a second car, hence the mileage increased to just 5,100 during this period. The car was serviced during his ownership by JCT600 in April 1988 at 3,800 miles, and by lan Anthony in June 1988 at 4,000 miles and August 1989 at 5,000 miles.
Bramley repurchased the car from Howard Clark at the beginning of 1990 and subsequently sold it again on 5th March 1990. Its next owner enjoyed the Porsche for many years and once again used it infrequently and only in dry conditions. It was stored in a warm, dry garage under a dust cover and during his ownership the mileage increased to just 17,000 miles, before it joined our vendor's Collection in 2011 where it has resided ever since.
It's accompanied by the original service book and manuals detailing the cars history, along with a file of invoices covering services and maintenance carried out over the years. The most recent service was in November 2024 with Northway Porsche in Reading (invoice on file), the current MOT is valid until 4th November 2025 and the V5C shows four previous owners.
As you would expect given the low mileage, the car remains in very original condition and we can only emphasise that it’s one of the very best that we have ever offered. We highly recommend and encourage all interested parties to come and see the car for themselves at our Sale at Sywell Aerodrome. The defining poster car of the 1970s and 1980s and in our opinion still undervalued, this superb 930 Turbo has to be seen to be appreciated.
